2023 Onsen Semi-Open-Air Bath Guest Room & Dining "Oriori" Renovation

A Japanese-modern Onsen Accommodation nestled along the Haruki River in the tranquil Yumura Onsen, surrounded by mountains. The interior is designed with motifs inspired by Hyogo’s traditional craft, “Toyooka Kiryuzai-zaiku” (woven willow work). Relax in our Onsen, known as the “beauty bath,” enjoy a breakfast rich in locally sourced San’in ingredients—featuring plenty of fresh vegetables and our popular steamed dishes—and unwind with a creative kaiseki dinner that reflects the seasons. Plans featuring local specialties such as Tajima beef and winter delicacy Matsuba crab are also popular. About 3.5 hours from Osaka by express bus to Yumura Onsen. About 75 minutes by car to Takeda Castle Ruins, and about 40 minutes by car to the Tottori Sand Dunes.

  • Arriving at Yuamu always makes me want to say, “I’m home!!” This time, we planned our visit for the day the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. Since our wedding anniversary is in April, my husband and I have stayed at Yuamu every year because he loves it so much, but this was our first time during peak cherry blossom season. When I opened the Room window, the blossoms looked absolutely beautiful. While soaking in the open-air bath, cherry petals fluttered down into the clear water. The food was as delicious as ever and never disappoints, and the service was attentive without being intrusive—just what you’d expect from Yuamu.

  • I stayed at the accommodation for the first time on January 22. It took six hours to get to Yuamu from Osaka due to the severe cold wave. I felt relieved when I arrived at the accommodation. The snowy outdoor bath was amazing. The staff's hospitality was very polite and heartwarming. The meals were delicious, and the portions were just right. I was also satisfied with services like welcome drinks, massage chairs, and post-bath ice cream. I would love to stay again. Although getting there in the snow was challenging, it became a memorable experience as well. Thank you very much!

Suite “Kawami” with Semi-Open-Air Onsen Bath (Japanese-Modern Style) / Example

In 2023, the guest room “Kawami” with a semi-open-air Onsen bath was renovated.

We have newly added three types of Onsen semi-open-air bath guest rooms, “Kawami,” on the second floor. While preserving a traditional Japanese atmosphere, the design creates a simple, refined modern feel—offering a new style of Ryokan stay. Each new room features an Onsen “semi” open-air bath, allowing you to bathe while gazing at the Harukigawa River from the window without worrying about the weather.

Onsen

Yumura Onsen is a historic hot-spring resort that first opened in the Heian period. Its natural source, Arayu, is known as one of Japan’s hottest springs, with 98°C water continuously bubbling up. Yumura Onsen is also rich in metasilicic acid and is renowned as a “beauty bath.”

  • Kasumi Crab Treasure Box Grill

[Spring & Autumn Only] Now Accepting Reservations for the Kasumi Crab Treasure Box Grill Plan

Crab is best known as a winter delicacy, but in the Tajima area of Hyogo, you can also enjoy the red snow crab “Kasumi Crab” in spring and autumn.

*In summer, crab fishing is closed to protect resources.

While the main crab season—including Matsuba Crab—is generally winter, at Accommodation Yuamu at Yunomura Onsen (Yusen) in San’in, you can savor red snow crab “Kasumi Crab,” landed at the nearby Kasumi Fishing Port in Hyogo, even in spring and autumn.

This is because Matsuba Crab season runs from November to March, while Kasumi Crab season is longer—from September to May.

Raised in mineral-rich deep ocean water, it has a higher moisture content and a distinctive sweetness.

*At Yuamu, the Plan that includes “Kasumi Crab Treasure Box Grill” (described below) is not available in winter and is sold only in spring (around early April to early June) and autumn (around early September to early November).

Kasumi Crab is often said to have finer meat, but our signature dish “Kasumi Crab Treasure Box Grill” combines carefully selected portions from several crabs into an equivalent of 1.0 crab—resulting in generously packed meat.

The shell is filled with peeled crab meat. This lets you enjoy plump pieces and flaked meat easily with chopsticks without getting your hands dirty. You can also savor a rich crab miso sauce.

Crab meals usually take time because removing the meat from the shell takes effort; however, “Kasumi Crab Treasure Box Grill” is served already removed from the shell.

With no time spent peeling shells—and a shorter meal than a typical crab trip—you’ll have more time for Onsen bathing or an evening stroll under illuminated lights.

*Only Plans that specifically include “Kasumi Crab Treasure Box Grill” in the Plan name are eligible.

Silver Award, A' Design Award & Competition 2022–2023

Thank you very much for your continued patronage of “San’in Yumura Onsen Yusen no Accommodation Yuamu.”

We are pleased to announce that at Italy’s world-renowned design competition, “A’ Design Award & Competition 2022–2023,” three types of guest rooms with a semi-open-air Onsen bath, , newly opened in February 2023 and designed by Naoya Tochio, along with our dining venue “OriorI,” received the Silver Award.

We sincerely appreciate your continued support.

~Guest Rooms with Semi-Open-Air Onsen Bath
Opened in February 2023, the guest rooms with a semi-open-air Onsen bath, , are located along the Harukigawa River. When you look down through the window of your private semi-open-air Onsen bath, you can see the Harukigawa flowing below. By offering “guest rooms with a semi-open-air Onsen bath,” we have made it possible for you to bathe while enjoying views of the Harukigawa from the window without worrying about the weather. The rooms are on the second floor and close to the river, allowing you to enjoy its gentle sounds and the changing seasons—cherry blossoms in spring, lush green mountains in summer, autumn foliage in fall, and snowy scenery in winter.

Yumura Onsen is one of The whole country’s hottest hot springs. While free-flowing natural hot spring water is a luxury, it is extremely hot as-is. In all three types of guest rooms with a semi-open-air Onsen bath, there are separate taps for “natural hot spring water” and “cold water,” allowing guests to adjust the temperature themselves.
