Experience a stay that embodies Onomichi culture with eight types of rooms featuring Japanese tradition and functional beauty.

Onomichi flourished as a key hub in Japan where people, goods, information, and culture came and went. The social setting where wealthy merchants entertained guests through the tea ceremony was called a “Saen,” and a long-established Ryokan that has long played this role in Onomichi has been reborn as “Ryokan Onomichi Nishiyama,” an Accommodation that carries Onomichi’s culture into the present day. Surrounding a spacious garden overlooking the Seto Inland Sea are six buildings with eight detached guest rooms, each with its own distinct character. In the main building, we also offer double rooms with views of the Seto Inland Sea and its islands. Enjoy our lounge inspired by a Setouchi sake storehouse, available for you to use freely during your stay. Embraced by expansive gardens and the Seto Inland Sea, spend a relaxing moment away from everyday life.

  • I stayed at Onomichi Nishiyama, which I had been curious about for some time. From the moment you step onto the grounds, you’re greeted by beautifully maintained gardens and charming buildings, creating a calm atmosphere that feels uniquely Onomichi. The location overlooking the Seto Inland Sea is also wonderful, and I was able to relax and truly unwind. What impressed me most was the dining. Every dish featuring ingredients from the Setouchi area was beautifully presented, made the most of the quality of each ingredient, and tasted excellent. Dining in the open kitchen with a lively atmosphere let me appreciate the chefs’ careful craftsmanship and made it a truly special experience.

  • Everything was wonderful. The beautiful Japanese garden, the spacious Japanese-style room, the staff’s heartfelt hospitality, and the meals—everything exceeded our expectations. The open-air bath in the room was also great; if I had to add one thing, it would have been even better if it had been a free-flowing Onsen.

Cuisine That Connects Onomichi’s Culture

Captivated by the Setouchi region’s ingredients and the thought, “Something truly wonderful can be found so close to home,” we have revived the heartfelt spirit of a former tea plantation in a new style of hospitality. Using the ingredients that moved us most that day, we create one-of-a-kind dishes finished in our open kitchen—each encounter a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Like a tea host, we face each guest, share words, and create a moment of togetherness. It is also our joy to connect guests—through our cuisine—to the stories behind each ingredient and to the people who produce them.
