A traditional Japanese Ryokan with 12 rooms offering a relaxing stay, rejuvenating hot spring baths, and the flavors of Shinshu cuisine.

Bessho Onsen is a villa area embraced by nature, ancient history, and historical sites, loved by many guests as a serene Onsen village alongside literary figures and artists. Renowned figures such as Shotaro Hanayagi and Matsutaro Kawaguchi have stayed at our Property numerous times. It is said that Kawaguchi decided on the title of his work "Aizen Katsura" during his stay here, inspired by the giant katsura tree near the Kannon statue. Kashiwaya Honten, with over a century of history, welcomes each guest with care, incorporating "Japanese elegance," "seasonal aromas," and "warm hospitality" into its architecture, cuisine, and service, offering a tranquil Japanese lodging experience.

  • We stayed here for our 20th wedding anniversary trip. The surprise cake we requested in advance was beautifully prepared, and our whole family had a wonderful time. Each dish was carefully prepared, the meal was very satisfying, and it felt perfect for a special occasion. The Room was calm and comfortable, so we could truly relax. The bath was also wonderful and deeply soothing. We were especially impressed by how warm and welcoming all the staff were, which made our stay very pleasant. What made us happiest was that they took a commemorative photo for us and presented it in a frame as a gift when we checked out. We were touched by this unexpected kindness, which made our 20th anniversary memories even more special. This was a lovely Ryokan where everything—from the service and meals to the Room and bath—was excellent.I would recommend it to anyone planning an important anniversary or special trip.We would love to stay again.

  • Due to the heavy snowfall from the day before our stay, we caused significant inconvenience to the staff, but we were welcomed with great warmth. Also, from a casual conversation during dinner, we received a wonderful surprise, and my parents were truly delighted. The meals this time were also very delicious; in particular, the Hassun course served at dinner in celebration of Setsubun was beautifully presented and outstanding. We will definitely return again before long.

About Hygiene Measures
[To Our Valued Guests] Measures Regarding COVID-19 We understand that concerns about COVID-19 may still persist. At our accommodation, we are taking every possible measure to ensure that we continue to provide you with comfort, safety, and peace of mind. Following the guidelines provided by the Ryokan Association of the whole country, we have enhanced cleaning protocols and implemented health checks for our staff to ensure a safe stay for all guests. Our staff will also wear masks while providing service. However, due to these unusual circumstances, we kindly ask for your cooperation in certain matters. Please review the following: 1) About Your Health Management If you experience symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, or fatigue, please inform us immediately. (With your consent, we will contact public health authorities and follow their instructions.) Please sanitize your hands upon entry and wear a mask in public areas such as the front lobby. (Masks are available at the front desk if needed.) 2) Use of Public Spaces (e.g., Front Lobby) The free drink corner (coffee/tea) will temporarily use paper cups for service. Please maintain distance from other guests when using public spaces. 3) Use of Large Baths Our two large baths are available for private use on a rotational basis. The "Yuuyu Jiteki no Yu" bath at Shikitei Annex is open with limited capacity and separate times for men and women as usual. From July 1st onwards, ventilation and cleaning will be conducted every two hours to avoid crowding while gradually returning operations to normal. Please note that staff may enter during this time. 4) Dinner Service The pre-dinner sake tasting corner is temporarily closed; instead, complimentary welcome drinks will be provided. Staff will confirm details at dinner time. To minimize staff entry into private dining rooms during meals: - The number of serving visits has been reduced. - Desserts will be delivered directly to guest rooms after dinner. Seating arrangements remain standard but can be adjusted upon request (e.g., side-by-side seating). Please inform us in advance. 5) Futon Bedding Service Futons will be prepared during dinner time; however, morning futon removal is not conducted unless requested. If you wish for futon removal or need tea replenishment or fresh towels/bath towels during breakfast hours, please notify meal service staff either during dinner or breakfast. 6) Breakfast Service To avoid crowding in front/public spaces: Coffee/tea services typically offered post-breakfast dessert are now served within dining areas instead. Additionally—check-out times shall also proactively get confirmed beforehand reducing congestion risks further! 7)Check-Out Process Acrylic panels installed @front counter ensuring safer transactions occur seamlessly! While luggage assistance remains intact—guests must self-move vehicles independently themselves! Should station shuttle services become necessary? Kindly pre-inform departure schedules earlier accordingly! For any questions/inquiries feel free contacting reception anytime without hesitation whatsoever! Thank You For Understanding & Cooperation Always!!
