    We made wonderful memories.

    Our family of four stayed here. When we mentioned at the time of our Reservation that one family member has limited mobility due to illness, the staff kindly asked whether we would be okay since there are stairs inside the Accommodation. We also requested a shower chair for the in-room bath, and they gladly arranged it, which was a great help. We are truly grateful that they adjusted the menu to accommodate ingredients we cannot eat. On arrival, they lent back-strap slippers to a family member who had difficulty wearing standard slippers, provided a handrail-like support to hold onto when putting on shoes, and even lent us a step for getting into the car when we left—all of which helped us tremendously. When we celebrated my mother’s birthday at dinner, it made us very happy that they celebrated with us as well. The view from our Room was wonderful, and seeing many Japanese white-eyes among the beautiful cherry blossoms from the outdoor bath was incredibly soothing. When we struggled with the coffee machine in the lounge, a staff member quickly showed us how to use it. This was a lovely Accommodation where thoughtful care reached every corner.

    It was very good.

    All staff were kind and attentive. The Room was clean and well maintained, so we were able to relax and enjoy our stay. We also enjoyed watching a Japanese bush warbler singing in the tree right in front of the private open-air bath in the guest room.

    A Comfortable Onsen Getaway

    The in-room Onsen and the meals were both excellent, and we had a very comfortable stay! Celebrating our child’s 2nd birthday was a great success!

    This was our second ...

    This was our second stay. We stayed the first time for a maternity trip, and since the Room and meals were wonderful, we made a Reservation for our 5-month-old daughter’s first trip with the Welcome Baby Plan! The fully flat Room meant we could let our daughter play without worry, even now that she has started to scoot around. We chose in-room dining, and it was absolutely the right decision! For the first time in a while, we were able to enjoy a delicious meal at a truly relaxed pace. Last time I couldn’t eat raw items, so they kindly changed my favorite sashimi to grilled dishes, but this time I was able to enjoy sashimi as well as rare meat! They also gave us plenty of rice refills, and we were very satisfied. We didn’t use it this time, but it seems baby food is also available. We would love to stay again for another family trip!

    We stayed as a famil...

    We stayed as a family of four to celebrate my parents’ 60th birthday. The Room was more than spacious enough for four adults. We also appreciated that the beer and juice in the Room were free of charge. The meals were delicious and just the right amount. (At other Accommodation, course meals are often so large that we end up leaving some, but here we were comfortably full after dessert.) The large public bath isn’t very big and has only a few washing stations, but the open-air bath in the Room is large, so you may be fine using that instead. After bathing, you can enjoy juice and ice pops. All staff were polite and pleasant. It was a wonderful Accommodation—thank you very much.

    Safe and comfortable for babies. The in-room open-air bath is clean, wonderfully spacious, and lovely.

    I stayed with my daughter’s family. We also had our 4-month-old grandchild with us, and it was a great help to be able to borrow various items such as a baby bath and a diaper disposal bin. They even washed our baby bottles for us.\nFrom our initial phone inquiry and throughout our stay, all the staff were very pleasant, and we were able to spend our time comfortably.\nThe open-air bath in the Room was clean, spacious, and wonderful. I would love to visit again.

    I was very pleased by the thoughtful consideration shown for guests.

    On a personal note, I previously had allergies and requested dietary restrictions, but they have improved recently. This time I made a Reservation with no restrictions, yet I promptly received an email confirming my dietary needs. Ashikari clearly keeps important information about past guests and once again showed thoughtful care. This kind of service from an Accommodation I love is truly wonderful.

    The cuisine is exceptional, and both the Room and the bath are clean.

    It’s rare to find a Ryokan with such outstanding satisfaction when it comes to the meals. Not only is the cuisine exceptional, but the staff’s service is also attentive and thorough. From the timing of each course to their knowledge of drinks and dishes, everything came together to create an excellent experience. I don’t usually write a Review, but this Ryokan is one I truly want everyone to visit at least once. The Onsen was also spacious and could be enjoyed in harmony with nature. Despite its long history, the cleanliness and service were carefully maintained down to every detail, which was wonderful.

    We stayed as a coupl...

    We stayed as a couple. Upon arrival, the staff greeted us right away. The moment we stepped into the Accommodation, we were welcomed by a lovely incense fragrance, which raised our expectations. The Room felt open and bright, with the warmth of wood. It was very clean and comfortable. We also appreciated that there were more than enough glasses and other items prepared for two people. However, the amenities were disappointing—more like those of a Business Hotel than what you would expect at this level. The in-room Onsen was spacious and nice, but the water was lukewarm, so we had to add hot water several times. The meals were delicious and the portions were just right. That said, the beef fillet tataki dish wasn’t quite to our taste; a hot steak might be more satisfying. I personally preferred breakfast, which felt more distinctive—the Saikyo-yaki fish was excellent. We dined in the dining area (lounge?), and it was partitioned off, allowing us to relax in a quiet setting. All staff members served us with smiles. In particular, one male foreign staff member was exceptionally attentive and wonderful. During our stay, we hardly saw other guests at all, so it was peaceful and relaxing. We would love to visit again in a different season.

    My 11-month-old son’s Onsen debut

    As our son is about to turn one, we stayed here to combine a parents’ break with a celebration. As a “Welcome Baby” Accommodation, it offered excellent baby-friendly services, which was a huge help. We especially appreciated the bottle sterilization service and the baby food provided. (Our son happily ate the rolled omelet and simmered udon!) The Room, the open-air bath, the meals, and the service were all wonderful—we were completely satisfied. Because you can see into the Room from the open-air bath in our Room, we were also happy that we could relax in the bath as a couple and gaze at the night sky while our son was napping or after he fell asleep at night. It’s an Accommodation we’d love to stay at again for another special occasion.

    It might not be worth the price.

    The renovated areas were clean, but stains on the stairs and around the Room entrance made the age of the property stand out, which was disappointing—it felt like a budget Accommodation. I even hesitated to use the slippers. The massage chair in the Room was also badly worn, and I couldn’t believe it was still being kept there. The Room we were shown at check-in had severe water-leak stains on the exterior wall, and I was also concerned about damage to the walls. On the other hand, the water quality and temperature control of the in-room open-air bath were excellent. As for meals, everything except the main fish and meat dishes was delicious. The menu composition was unique, with delicate dishes that were very enjoyable. Service was polite but focused mainly on serving food, with no attentiveness to drinks. The wine pairing did not meet even basic service standards—perhaps it would be better not to offer it. Overall, it didn’t feel worth the price.

    We had a wonderful stay.

    The staff were attentive and pleasant, making our stay very comfortable. I was traveling with my elderly mother, and we truly appreciated the thoughtful, detailed care. One disappointment was that the in-room open-air bath cooled down at times, making it difficult to use; at night in particular, it would have been better if it stayed a bit hotter.

    Our family of three ...

    Our family of three stayed here. All the staff were very kind, and we had a comfortable stay. The open-air bath was wonderfully relaxing while enjoying the outdoor view, and because the washing area is separated by a door, it was comfortable and not cold even in early spring. The meals were beautiful and delicious kaiseki cuisine, which we could enjoy at a leisurely pace in a calm setting. We really appreciated the well-equipped Room amenities—multiple yukata, samue loungewear, and towels were provided. The surroundings were very quiet; soaking in the hot water while listening to birdsong was pure bliss. We had a wonderful holiday as a family and are grateful to all the staff. We would love to visit again.

    Nice to meet you.

    I had wanted to stay at Ashikari for some time, and this time I was able to adjust my schedule and finally stay. The Room was bright, clean, and beautiful, and the view was lovely. I was also satisfied with the large public bath, and the meals were delicious. However, perhaps because my expectations were too high, I felt there was just one small thing missing. I can’t say what it was. Overall, my rating is superior. That said, it didn’t leave a strong impression. Some say that not standing out can be a virtue—and perhaps that is a good thing. This is an inexperienced review, but I hope it will be helpful.

    I stayed here with my wife’s parents.

    We stay here 3–4 times a year. We usually come as a family of three, but this time we stayed with my wife’s parents as a group of five, so we chose the larger Room called “Sagami-ji.” The Room, service, and meals were all excellent, and my in-laws were very happy. The “Sagami-ji” Room was great as well, but next time we plan to choose a Room with in-room dining, since our young daughter gets bored during longer meals.

    The open-air bath is wonderful.

    The open-air bath in the Room was wonderful. The bath was very spacious, and the chair for enjoying the fresh air was great. Early in the morning, I could soak in the bath while basking in the sunrise, which felt truly refreshing. It was my first time relaxing so slowly and comfortably in a Room. This was an Accommodation I would definitely like to stay at again.

    There will be no second time.

    I visited this kaiseki Ryokan with high expectations after seeing the photos, but I was disappointed. The hallway was covered in stains, and the slippers looked worn out. At check-in, they asked about ingredients I can’t eat in a loud voice even though other guests were nearby—so I could also hear what other guests couldn’t eat. The meal was very ordinary. In the Room, I could hear children running around upstairs and heavy thumping noises—it was extremely stressful. I called the front desk, but nothing improved; it actually got worse. I called again, and they said they would pass it on, but nothing changed. Even the door inside the Room made a loud squeaking sound every time it was opened or closed. When I used the open-air bath in the Room, I could hear children and adults talking loudly from both sides... Wondering why there were so many babies and small children, I checked and found that this Accommodation welcomes babies and children. It may be a good Ryokan for families with children. I won’t be going again.

    I couldn’t even focus on the taste of the food.

    The Room and the private open-air bath in the Room were excellent. My dinner was in a semi-private space separated from the next table by a curtain partition. The family next door had brought a toy with loud electronic sounds, so I had to ask to be moved... Before we were even seated, we were left waiting for a long time with no explanation, just staring at the food that had already been set out. During that time my husband became increasingly upset, and it was difficult for me to calm him down. If you prefer a quiet environment, I can’t really recommend this Accommodation. Since the Room was so good, it was disappointing that the staff response fell short.

    Everything was so outstanding that five stars aren’t enough.

    This Accommodation was truly wonderful in every way. The Room, the meals, the Onsen, the atmosphere throughout the property, and above all the thoughtful hospitality of the staff—everything exceeded our expectations. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and felt comfortable throughout our stay. The meals were carefully prepared and delicious dish by dish, and the Onsen was deeply relaxing—an indulgent time that let us forget everyday life. This is a Ryokan that genuinely makes you think, “I will definitely come back.” I would highly recommend this Accommodation for a trip with someone special or for a memorable occasion. Thank you very much for such a wonderful time.

    Recommended for families with babies

    The Room was very spacious, with high ceilings that created an open, airy feel. Our 8-month-old was thrilled and happily scooted all around the Room at full energy. The cleaning was also extremely thorough, so we felt comfortable and at ease throughout our stay. All drinks in the refrigerator were free, with a great variety. The coffee in the lobby was delicious, and they also offered decaf—something I really appreciated as a breastfeeding mother. The tea provided in the Room was organically grown as well, which showed the same thoughtful attention to detail. The view from the private open-air bath in our Room was outstanding. We were able to fully enjoy our private space and spend a truly relaxing time. We also used the public bath, but it is on the smaller side with limited washing stations and sinks, so you may need to wait if it’s crowded. After bathing, we could freely enjoy ice cream and drinks—even beer—which felt wonderfully indulgent. Every dish was delicious and carefully prepared, and we were very satisfied overall. However, some items (such as rice) were served slightly cool, so I felt there is room for improvement in timing and pacing of service. They were also very welcoming to guests with babies—providing baby wipes and warming up baby food—and we truly appreciated their attentive support. Above all, the staff’s hospitality was exceptional. Everyone was kind, warm, and professional, making our stay genuinely pleasant from start to finish. It was a truly wonderful Accommodation with thoughtful care throughout. We would definitely love to stay again.

    We stayed here on a long-awaited family trip. When I listed allergy ingredients at the time of booking, you called me the same day and carefully confirmed even the seasonings, which truly impressed me. On the day of our arrival, my child had injured their foot and came on crutches. Even though we hadn’t mentioned it in advance, you quickly prepared easy-to-wear indoor slippers at the entrance, brought a chair, supported us, and responded immediately on the spot. Throughout our stay, you showed such thoughtful care so we could be comfortable that both my child and I were deeply moved. The meals were artistic, beautiful, and delicious—truly wonderful hospitality that delighted all five senses. You also accommodated our allergies thoroughly; we are nothing but grateful. The Room was very clean and beautifully maintained down to every detail, making our stay extremely comfortable. Above all, my whole family was soothed by the staff’s warmth and kindness—their smiles, words of care, and outstanding hospitality—and we were able to enjoy two perfect days. We have visited many Accommodations before, but without exaggeration this was an exceptional Accommodation in every way. We would love to visit again.

    The service is very attentive, and all the staff are extremely kind. The Room is kept clean and comfortable. We stayed in a Room with an open-air bath, and it was wonderful. The meals were delicious, with each ingredient carefully prepared and a wide variety of dishes. We were very satisfied. We would definitely like to stay again.

    The food and the Onsen were excellent.

    It was a Hotel with an atmosphere that blended into the nature of Yugawara. The food was delicious, and we enjoyed it with sake. The open-air bath in the Room had gentle spring water and was incredibly relaxing. Next time, I’d like to visit during the autumn foliage season.

    This was our first trip with our second son, and we really appreciated your hospitality.

    We have a 4-month-old second son, and we were looking for an Accommodation with: - an in-room bath - in-room dining if possible. Depending on the Plan, this Accommodation meets those requirements. Both dinner and breakfast were refined and delicious, and the Room was very clean. The large windows also made it feel wonderfully open. The staff were kind and showed us so much consideration. They even spoke to our 4-year-old eldest son by name, which was very thoughtful. When traveling with children, you inevitably worry about those around you, so you often end up choosing a large, lively Accommodation (which we also enjoy). However, because there are limited options for bringing small children to a quiet Accommodation, this was truly wonderful. We would love to visit again someday.

    Thank you very much for upgrading us to your best Room as it was available. The Room had floor-to-ceiling glass windows, making it very bright, and the view was wonderful. Early-blooming cherry blossoms and plum blossoms were also in bloom in the garden, and the moon and stars from the open-air bath were amazing. Of course, we also enjoyed a truly delicious meal. This has become my favorite Ryokan in Yugawara, and I will come back to stay again in autumn.

    Stayed for one night from the 26th with three family members. The purpose of this trip was to celebrate my mother's 77th birthday and surprise my sister, who has recovered from a serious illness. From the warm welcome upon arrival to the kind hospitality of all staff, I felt proud to have chosen this accommodation. The attentive care of our assigned attendant, the subtle kindness of male staff we met along the way, and the friendly atmosphere created by those serving meals were all exceptional. And above all—the food! Starting with its visual appeal, every dish was delicately flavored and beautifully presented with love. Warm dishes were served warm... it truly conveyed a heartfelt desire to provide guests with an unforgettable dining experience. We chose the Kinmedai Plan (Golden Eye Snapper), which is a favorite for both my sister and me. Sharing this meal together brought us immense happiness as a family. Additionally, thanks to a surprise arranged by your staff at the end, we had an opportunity to connect with other guests in our room—a delightful experience that highlighted how your team's friendliness fosters meaningful encounters among visitors. My mother was moved to tears (of joy) in our room that night because she felt how much thought I had put into this trip for her and my sister—it made me so happy too. The layout of our room and bath facilities were perfect; we enjoyed them multiple times during our stay. We will definitely return again! Thank you so much for providing us such wonderful memories filled with happiness!

    I stayed with my 4-m...

    I stayed with my 4-month-old baby. The staff warmly welcomed us, which I greatly appreciated. However, the heating only worked in the upper part of the room, and since it was a room with futons, it felt even colder. It was unfortunate that we had to stay in such a cold space.

    The room is excellent.

    Good Points: - The Room was spacious, clean, and had an amazing view. - The white rice was delicious. Areas for Improvement: - Due to the building being old, constant footsteps from the floor above were heard until around midnight, which was frustrating. - A young male staff member during dinner service did not explain the dishes and served bowls by grabbing them with both hands. - The temperature of the private open-air bath in the Room was low; I had to press the hot water button over 10 times and stir it to make it comfortable, which made it hard to relax. - The public bath is small, so it's better not to expect much. Other: - Customer service was average (neither too attentive nor too distant).
