YU-FURI NASU-TAKAO ONSEN LODGE

The facility appears to be a renovated old mountain lodge. While the building's age was noticeable in areas like the elevator, the room itself was beautifully refurbished. Although there were few power outlets, extension cords were provided, which was very helpful. As bringing your own food is allowed, I brought my own meals, but the frozen food available at the facility also looked delicious. However, there were limited options for sweets like ice cream, so those who want such items might consider bringing their own as well. The bath area was also renovated and very clean. The indoor bath seemed to have added water but was adjusted to a comfortable temperature. The mixed-gender open-air bath had significantly lower water temperatures; it can be challenging to stay in during wintertime. However, both the night view and stars were stunning at night, and in the morning it felt wonderfully open and refreshing—this would likely be perfect during warmer seasons. The onsen water itself was free-flowing and excellent quality. For accessing the mixed-gender open-air bath from each changing room while wearing bathing clothes provided by the facility, there wasn’t a place to wring out wet clothes upon returning indoors after bathing outside; this caused some water pooling in the changing rooms which could be improved for better comfort during transitions between baths or spaces outdoors/indoors alike! Staying here with no meals included while enjoying such great baths at an affordable price made for an excellent experience overall! I would love another opportunity someday soon again staying here again if possible—thank you so much!

Check-in and check-out were smooth, and the staff provided pleasant service. It was my first time visiting Hottarakashi Onsen, and I learned that there is no outerwear provided to wear over the yukata, so I will bring one next time. I brought a swimsuit for the outdoor mixed-gender open-air bath but gave up because it was too cold. The indoor Onsen at night felt quite mysterious, almost making me question if it was really an Onsen. The morning open-air bath Onsen was the best; perhaps it gets diluted at night?
