By December, the lake freezes completely over; colorful tents for smelt fishing dot the ice against a backdrop of Mount Yatsugatake. About Komi Town

Approximately 2 hours by train or 3 hours by car from Tokyo, Koumi Town is located in the eastern part of Nagano Prefecture, near the center of the Minami-Saku region. Over 1,000 years ago, a large lake was formed when a river was dammed due to a steam explosion from Mount Yatsugatake, and it came to be known as "Koumi." The Matsubara Lake area where HOTEL MIYAM is situated is said to have been a sacred site for local faith. It lies at the foot of Matsubara Suwa Shrine, established during the Heian period and deeply revered by Takeda Shingen.
