[10th Anniversary] Umizora Film Festival 2026: The Sea, Movies, and “Sumoto Onsen Spring Fireworks”!
The “Umizora Film Festival,” which began in 2016 and marks its 10th anniversary this year, is a rare event—both in The whole country and worldwide—where a giant screen is floated on the sea and movies are enjoyed from the beach.
It started with the hope that “many people can relax while looking at the ocean and listening to the waves,” and that they would “rediscover the beauty of Awaji Island’s seaside scenery.” In 2024, it received the top prize, the Prime Minister’s Award, at the 28th Furusato Event Awards.
This year’s Umizora Film Festival will be held over three days: April 24 (Fri), 25 (Sat), and 26 (Sun).
At “Sea Cinema,” set up on Ohama Beach right in front of our group Hotel Yume Kaiyu Awajishima, screenings are scheduled as follows: on the 24th, Piccola felicità ~A Little Happiness~; on the 25th and 26th, Disney/Pixar films Zootopia 2 (Japanese dubbed) and Elio (Japanese dubbed).
In addition to Sea Cinema, you can enjoy events from day to night along the shore, including a night market with popular Awaji Island food vendors, UMIZORA BAR and other food events, marine activities such as SUP and MEGA SUP, and the popular Umizora Blue Lanterns where you write a wish on a lantern and release it into the night sky.
On the 24th, there will also be a red-carpet event featuring special guests including Toyo Mizutani—the director and star of Piccola felicità ~A Little Happiness~—as well as a talk show with Mr. Mizutani, cast members, and the cinematographer.
In conjunction with this festival day(s), “Sumoto Onsen Spring Fireworks” will also be held.
Fireworks will be launched for three days (24–26) at Ohama Beach—the Umizora Film Festival venue—and on April 25–26 at Komoe Coast. As these are surprise fireworks displays, timing will be announced only on the day; please enjoy a fireworks show lasting about 5–10 minutes.
Come experience Umizora Film Festival—where you can enjoy both movies and fireworks!
