An Accommodation conveniently located near Akayu Station, where the Shinkansen stops. They also provided a Shuttle Service. Just outside the walls is an ordinary townscape, but inside is an extraordinary retreat. This Accommodation makes beautiful use of relocated historic buildings while feeling fresh and updated overall. The lounge showcases details that are becoming increasingly rare: a tokonoma alcove with fresh flowers, an engawa veranda, ranma transoms, tatami mats, and antique chests (still in use for loungewear). The space blends Japanese and Scandinavian design—modern Japanese style at its best. The complimentary drinks in the lounge include unique and delicious teas as well. The corridors strike a perfect balance between old-world character and new comfort underfoot. Despite the name “Akayu,” the Onsen is clear and continuously flowing. There is an in-Room bath, as well as a larger shared bath. They protect water quality with great care—no added water and minimal exposure to air. Another distinctive touch is the drinking-water station near the entrance. Meals are also a luxurious way to enjoy Yamagata. The meat and fish are excellent, but even the vegetables—like the Chinese cabbage served with the meat—are outstanding. It’s easy to see why this place earned Michelin Keys. The staff are dedicated and share what makes Yamagata special. Even offering rice as a souvenir reflects their confidence in their food. I visited twice—in January 2026 and again in March 2026.

It was a girls' trip with my elderly mother and sister. Although we were initially concerned about bears, the peaceful and spacious environment made us completely forget about it, allowing us to relax and unwind. The place was impeccably clean, and we truly appreciated the thoughtful consideration for our food preferences (meat or fish). My mother has already expressed her desire to visit again. Yamagataza was wonderful, so next we stayed at this sister property. The president even came to greet us and welcomed us back—it was clear that information had been shared, which was impressive. It turned out to be a fantastic auberge with a different kind of charm from Yamagataza. The food was truly delicious. The Onsen and the excellent meals were the best. The hospitality was warm here as well, just like at Yamagataza. The chef was friendly, and after we checked out, they waved goodbye as they saw us off. We will definitely return.

I visited with a friend who loves traveling. This was my third stay, and as always, the food was excellent, and the Onsen was amazing. My friend, visiting for the first time, also enjoyed it and went to the bath twice. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Although it’s not easy to reach by public transportation, I came back because I wanted to spend another wonderful time here. I was happy to see the staff member who took care of us last time again! It’s no exaggeration to say I came to see her—she truly loves this Accommodation. There were more amenities than last time, and I had a very comfortable stay. It seems the chef has changed, but the food was still delicious. Recommended for those who want a quiet stay. The building is also well worth seeing! It’s beautifully maintained and truly impressive.

As the Hotel has been renovated, everything is very clean. The bath in the Room is also quite spacious, but we especially recommend the large public bath, which also features a sauna and a carbonated bath. Breakfast isn’t too much; it’s healthy and gentle on the body. This amount is just right. Each dish is carefully prepared. It has become my favorite among all the Hotels I’ve stayed at so far. I’d love to stay again when I have the chance.

We encourage the front desk staff to try using it once—you’ll find it quite difficult to reach the toilet paper. We strongly request that the toilet paper holder and the washlet control panel be relocated to the front of the toilet seat.

I booked this Onsen Accommodation because I was drawn in by the low price for one night with two meals. The exterior looks like a plain business-style Accommodation, but the inside was very clean, and both the front desk staff and the attendant who showed me to my Room were pleasant—making a great first impression from check-in. Because they also accept day-use bathing, the Onsen was crowded, but that just shows how popular it is with locals. The meals were well prepared overall: freshly fried tempura was brought out later, and the chawanmushi arrived piping hot. For an Accommodation in this price range, I was very satisfied. Drink prices were also low, which I really appreciated as someone who enjoys alcohol. The Room was a business hotel-style single, but it had everything I needed for solo travel. I’d like to stay here again as a base for traveling around Tohoku.

I was a bit anxious about staying with my grandchild, but the staff at the Ryokan were very attentive, and we had a wonderful time. The Onsen was also great—calm and relaxing. I’d like to visit again for the Onsen and the Japanese sake tasting set.

It turned into a mother-and-daughter trip with our dog. The Hotel felt a bit old, but I liked the character of the exterior, as well as the lobby and the shop. At the entrance there is an Onsen for dogs, and towels are provided. The surrounding area also has places like a butcher and a wine shop, with a relaxed atmosphere. About the Room: It was a Japanese-style Room with a cozy feel, and there was one sheet for our dog. If you’re traveling with a dog, it’s best to bring your own food, sheets, and diapers. We enjoyed the Onsen both at night and in the morning, including the open-air bath. Meals were served in a large hall, and above all they were very generous in portion size. It was too much for my upper-elementary-school daughter, so I felt sorry that we left some behind. This became a Hotel we would definitely like to stay at again.

First-time glamping in a Snow Peak JYUBAKO. We were excited about this camping-style glamping experience, but with the forecast of bad weather, we felt uneasy. After consulting with the staff, they kindly prepared a tarp and charcoal so we could still enjoy a camping atmosphere indoors. We were deeply touched by the manager's thoughtfulness. The meals were more than enough to eat, and on clear nights, you can enjoy a sky full of stars. With easy access from the highway, it's highly recommended for camping beginners. We would love to visit again if given the chance!

We always stay here as a family when visiting home. First, the building is clean, the interior is also clean, and it’s quiet and relaxing. The Room is just as nice. The price is very reasonable and affordable. We will definitely stay here again.

The accommodations are designed like individual cottages, and some rooms come with private baths, making it a great choice for families! You also receive free tickets to enjoy the Onsen, which is a nice bonus! You can have up to two rainbow trout per person cooked for you after fishing. Personally, I found the food delicious with plenty of variety, so even one fish was satisfying! The owner is very kind and accommodating, making it a wonderful place to stay! There’s also a supermarket nearby for shopping in advance. The room includes a refrigerator that is spacious enough for your needs!

It was a traditional Ryokan with a sense of history. The hinoki wood bath was also excellent.
