This was our fifth stay. We visit about once a year for a three-generation family trip. As always, the baths were very comfortable, and this time we enjoyed both the main building and annex baths. The main building has an open-air bath, while the annex offered great views from the 7th floor. At Dining Cosmos, we again enjoyed the wide variety of menu options, and we were able to try Peking duck this time—it was delicious! The children were happy to have ramen in the morning. All of the staff provided excellent service and showed great consideration in many ways. Thank you very much. We would love to visit again!

This was my third stay. Last time I stayed in a Deluxe Room, but this time I tried a Superior Room. The Room was smaller, but it was very easy to use, with convenient space for luggage and a well-placed heating setup. The bath and toilet were separate, and there was also a separate vanity sink, so even though we stayed as a large group, we were able to spend our time comfortably. Also, the desk, chairs, and mirror were arranged so that three people could sit side by side. Since there were many women doing their makeup, it really helped. And the food was amazing. Dinner had a time limit, but we could fully enjoy delicious dishes to our heart’s content. Breakfast was also so great that I ended up eating more than usual—the menu was wonderful and something I wanted to brag about to everyone. I didn’t take any photos so there are no images, but the meals are truly something this Hotel can be proud of.

I’d been wanting to experience this snow-viewing Onsen for a long time, and I finally had the chance to visit. Since the building is a relocated traditional farmhouse, I expected it to be somewhat cold, but thoughtful measures kept the interior warm and it was very comfortable. Before dinner, the chef’s “Minamiuonuma Nature & Ingredients Tour” included not only an introduction to the local ingredients but also detailed explanations of the architecture, which I found fascinating. The meal itself felt truly one of a kind—an expression of the chef’s passion. Maintaining the building, sourcing ingredients, prepping, clearing snow—each alone would be demanding. In an era when staffing is difficult, I felt this is a rare Accommodation run with tremendous effort while still finding ways to keep prices reasonable. The snow-viewing Onsen was outstanding, of course—but I’d love to return just to see the glossy dark pillars and beams again. And it’s wonderful that you can get here in under two hours from Tokyo Station!

The Room facing the pond looked wonderful in the photos, and it was worth the splurge. The pond side has large floor-to-ceiling windows, offering a picture-perfect view even from the bed. It was still a bit early for autumn leaves, but the greenery was beautiful as well. There are plenty of places to sit in the public areas, and although there must have been many guests, it was quiet and relaxing, allowing us to fully enjoy the atmosphere of the Accommodation. This is an Accommodation I would love to stay at for several days.

This was my first stay. It is a calm Hotel with a pleasant atmosphere, and the Facility and amenities are thoughtfully arranged so guests can stay comfortably. I had a relaxing and comfortable time. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, but this is just my personal preference: I would have liked dinner to be a little more seasoned, and since the rice at breakfast was very good, it would have been nice to have some pickles.

Onsen. There are five types of baths in the large public bath area. Both the men’s and women’s baths seem to have a similar layout. Each bath isn’t very large, but since we stayed on a weekday right after a three-day weekend, there were fewer guests and we could relax and enjoy them at our own pace. There is also a paid “Yakuseki Bath,” which feels like a combination of hot-stone therapy and a sauna, and it was excellent. Since we booked the course featuring beef grilled on a ceramic plate and grilled nodoguro (blackthroat seaperch) skewers, we received one free ticket and were able to enjoy it. You really work up a sweat. It was disappointing that there is no open-air bath, but overall the bathing facilities were very satisfying. The meals were delicious—both the beef grilled on a ceramic plate and the nodoguro skewers. Another highlight was that they use 100% Uonuma Koshihikari rice. Perhaps because of how it was cooked, breakfast in particular was outstanding. The air-conditioning controls were a bit tricky, so at times it felt slightly cold or warm, but it was within an acceptable range. They also offer Shuttle Service from Muikamachi Station, making it convenient even by train. This is an Accommodation I would definitely like to stay at again.

Overall, it was neither particularly good nor bad, but it was clean and the meals were satisfying for the price. If I had to mention something—this may come down to personal preference—the white rice, despite being in a region known for rice, was a bit firm, and the rice in the tub was slightly cool. The portions were satisfying. The Room’s washlet toilet seat was old and seemed to have low water pressure, so it didn’t feel very useful.

Following my stay during the ski season, I visited again in the summer for Fuji Rock. Overall, the facility seems to cater to families, likely due to the activities available on-site, and is considerate of guests with children. The impression of the rooms varies depending on the type. This time, since there were three of us, an extra bed was added, making the room feel cramped. The amenities provided are minimal, the kettle is small enough for just one cup of instant noodles, the lighting is dim, and instead of air conditioning, there is an old-fashioned cooler (though it does keep the room cool). If you think of it as an old Western-style building, you can manage, but the dark wood gives a lonely feel at night, while during the day, the room feels bright due to good natural lighting. There are two large communal baths, which are spacious, bright, and pleasant. However, the green mat laid in the natural hot spring area tends to accumulate water in the washing area, which doesn't feel very hygienic. Also, the grounds are vast, so it's quite a trek to the bath! There are several restaurants, but breakfast time is extremely crowded, so it's best to go early or late to make the most of your time. The staff are very accommodating, so many issues can be resolved if you make requests during your stay, and they are well-prepared for guests with children, providing peace of mind. The rooms might be a bit dark for women seeking a chic atmosphere, but the facility offers a self-contained stay. Also, when driving there, the uphill road is completely unlit at night, which is quite spooky! lol

We visited at the end of the year with our dog. Having visited Koshokan several times before, we expected the meals to be delicious, and they did not disappoint. However, we were truly impressed by the quality of the Onsen water—it felt like being immersed in lotion, leaving our skin smooth and soft. The variety of post-bath refreshments such as tea, beer, and ice cream was excellent. The Room was warm and comfortable, making for a perfect stay. Since there are only stairs available, we plan to visit again while our dog is still young. Although it’s understandable that the smoking area is outside, walking on snowy ground in midwinter was quite nerve-wracking.

They serve truly serious cuisine! You can feel the chef’s dedication, and it’s genuinely delicious! Even the standard course included this much!

We stayed as two couples, my husband and I, along with my sister and her husband. The accommodation provided shuttle service to the nearest station, and the staff's hospitality was excellent. The meals were outstanding; the rice from Uonuma was so delicious that both the porridge at dinner and breakfast the next day left us thinking we had never tasted such amazing rice before. If I had to mention one minor disappointment, it would be that the beef steak served at dinner was cold. However, all other dishes—appetizers, wild boar dish, sashimi—were absolutely delightful. As a parting gift, they gave us souvenirs which included a photo taken during our meal from the previous day—a wonderful keepsake of our stay. Thank you very much!

I chose this accommodation in Tokamachi, Niigata Prefecture, a heavy snowfall area, because I wanted to experience a snow-covered location. The renovated traditional house had an interior full of charm. I fully enjoyed using the irori (sunken hearth) and wood stove. When I wanted to lay out the futon at night but couldn't find it, I contacted the staff and they promptly came to assist me. For dinner, we brought our own ingredients and made hot pot dishes. The kitchen was spacious with all necessary cooking utensils and seasonings available, making my wife and daughter happily cook together. Breakfast was a delightful New Year's meal with rich flavors that left an impression. Although the accommodation does not have its own onsen, there are nearby onsen facilities available for use without inconvenience. The building itself is impressive—a renovated traditional house combined with modern Japanese furniture—allowing us to stay comfortably even during this cold snowy season. I look forward to visiting their sister accommodations in the future as well.

It was our first family trip in a while, and we were able to relax and enjoy the Onsen. We booked No Meals Included, but the food at the restaurant was very delicious!! Everyone was so kind and attentive, and we really appreciated it. We would love to visit again.

A very lovely accommodation with a historical atmosphere! A kind elderly lady assisted us, and the meals were delicious. Staying one night with breakfast and dinner included for 7,500 yen was a great deal! The onsen was especially relaxing in winter, allowing us to enjoy the winter scenery. I would love to stay here again.

We stayed here as a base for a ski trip to Naeba, Suhara, and Kagura. Since we chose an expressway discount plan with a lift-ticket set for touring multiple resorts, we didn’t worry about the distance to the nearest interchange. We narrowed down options across several areas and booked based on this priority: a high-quality Onsen available anytime > location (quiet and tucked away) > price. The Onsen is pleasantly lukewarm with soft water quality—I’ve lost count of how many times I soaked. It feels like being wrapped in a futon, and it’s so relaxing that once I soaked absentmindedly without even turning on the bath lights before evening… and before I knew it, it was midnight. Unlike circulated baths that make you sweat heavily in 5–10 minutes, this one is different: no matter how many times I bathed, my skin never felt dry. On the guestroom floor there is a microwave, vending machines for soft drinks, alcohol, and snacks, plus a jug of local spring water. It seemed like soft water and tasted great—I refilled it many times. I’ll stop here—if I praise it too much, I might not be able to get a Reservation next season. Thank you for a wonderful trip.

The meals were very delicious.

I imagined a traditional inn might have loud footsteps and creaking noises, but the building was solid and there was nothing to worry about. There was no noise coming through from other Rooms, and it was very quiet—perhaps because the other guests were also quiet. I stayed alone in an 8-tatami Room, and I felt that having that much space was really nice. The building was neatly kept, and the cleaning was thorough. For meals, seating in the dining hall was arranged so guests were spaced apart, which I prefer. Everyone ate quietly as well. This time I chose the Plan with fewer dishes, but the food was very delicious and just right for me. Personally, for breakfast I would be happier with rolled omelet rather than ham and eggs, and a slice of salmon rather than sausages—but I still enjoyed it very much. The owner here was calm and not pushy—someone who felt reassuringly like a Niigata local. This stay made me rethink my view of traditional inns; it’s an Accommodation that makes you want to come back again.

The bath was absolutely amazing. The meals were hearty, and the Room was spacious and relaxing. When we mentioned that we came to see the ancient lotus seeds, they kindly picked one for us. Our journey continues as we admire the lotus seed.

I stayed after the Nagaoka Fireworks Festival. Since I thought I might check in after 11:00 PM, I consulted with the staff, and they kindly said they would hand over the key as long as I arrived on the same day. When I visited around noon, they responded immediately, which was very helpful. In the end, I arrived at the Hotel around 11:10 PM but was able to enter my Room right away without any issues. The Plan included breakfast for four family members, and it was very delicious. I hope to stay again next year if possible!

It was a wonderful Accommodation, with beautiful snowy scenery, an open-air bath, delicious meals, and the kind staff at the Ryokan. When I consulted with them about an event I absolutely wanted to attend, everyone at the Ryokan kindly helped me. Thanks to them, I was able to enjoy the event to the fullest. I truly appreciated their warm hospitality and how thoughtfully they looked after me. Thanks to everyone, this trip became a very special memory. Thank you so much. I would love to stay here again when I visit Niigata.
