Hotel Nagisaya

This time, I enjoyed a great view, the Accommodation was thoroughly cleaned, and the futon was laid out exactly as requested. The meals were generous in portion, and the sashimi had no unpleasant odor. The Onsen had a sulfur scent, and my skin felt smooth—I could really feel the benefits. While soaking in the open-air bath during daylight, I looked up to see black kites and what looked like sea cormorants flying overhead. Looking out over the sea, I could also see something jumping in the distance—maybe fish or cormorants. At night, while soaking alone in the Onsen, a calm older woman spoke to me. From our conversation it sounded like she was traveling with someone, but the next day she seemed to be dining alone as a solo traveler, which made her seem a bit lonely. I’ve traveled solo myself and have experienced eating facing a wall at a nearby table while families and couples enjoyed their meals together around me—so I understand that lonely feeling. So it might be nice to offer an option for solo guests to dine in a more private space without worrying about others—for example, guiding them to a separate Room or creating something like an “in-room dining” Plan for those who prefer it. I’ve seen other older Ryokan use vacant Rooms as dining spaces for this purpose. Even with rising prices everywhere, Nagisaya offered very reasonable rates and excellent value for money. I’d love to stay again if I have another chance.

Overall, it felt a bit quiet and sparse, but we adults enjoyed it like a hidden retreat—a secret hideout.
