Hotel Tsubakikan

We originally had a Reservation for a 12.5-tatami Japanese-style Room, but thanks to the Hotel’s kindness, we were upgraded.The Room was very spacious, and even with five of us staying, it was extremely comfortable.For dinner, we enjoyed a kaiseki meal in a private dining room. The Room was quiet, the food was delicious, and the attendant was very pleasant—overall we were very satisfied.Breakfast was buffet-style with a wide variety of options—Japanese and Western dishes, ramen, curry, rice porridge, desserts, and more. I wanted to try everything but there was simply too much (laugh).Breakfast started at 7:00 AM, so many guests were waiting beforehand and it got a bit crowded right after opening as people went to get their food.It’s also conveniently located near the Dogo Onsen arcade shopping street—an Accommodation that everyone in our group enjoyed.

It was my first time in Dogo Onsen, but when it came to choosing an Accommodation, this was the only option for me from the start. As soon as you enter the entrance, you’re welcomed by a spacious atrium lobby with a charming Meiji-era romantic atmosphere, and the entire Hotel is kept beautifully clean. The alkaline Onsen left my skin silky smooth, and since it wasn’t too hot, I could soak and relax at length. Face towels are also provided. Both dinner and breakfast buffet meals featured many local specialties made with regional ingredients, with gently seasoned dishes that I thoroughly enjoyed. In particular, the sea bream used in several dishes was the most delicious sea bream I’ve ever had. And the cut mandarin oranges—so juicy and wonderfully sweet—I ended up eating lots of them. All of the staff were kind; after checkout they took photos for us in front of the Hotel and even drove us to the station in a London taxi, which became a very special memory. The location is also convenient—just a few minutes on foot to Dogo Onsen Honkan and to Haikara Street in the arcade—so you can easily go out for an evening stroll as well. When I visit Dogo Onsen again next time, I will definitely stay here again. A highly recommended Hotel that I was extremely satisfied with.
