Norikura Kogen Berg House

Staying at Berg House is always a delight, especially because of the seasonal dishes made with fresh vegetables and fruits. We always stay in the same room, making it feel more like returning home than just staying at an accommodation. This time, we were particularly impressed by the soup made with Kawakajima Hakuto peaches. On our way back, we searched for these peaches at a farmer's market as they had a firm texture yet were perfectly sweet, just as their son who served us mentioned. My spouse and I agreed that we must have these peaches again next year. The carefully prepared dishes using low-temperature cooking reflect the high level of professionalism and dedication to pleasing guests. Among all accommodations we've stayed at, this is one that makes us want to return as soon as possible after every checkout—a truly beloved place!

From the heat of the lowlands to the cool breeze of the highlands. The accommodation is nestled in a forest among several other facilities. While it has a long history, careful and high-quality renovations have made the interior bright, clean, and comfortable. Air conditioning was newly installed for use during only brief moments of peak summer heat. The calm interior design is complemented by charming ornaments that reflect the owner's taste.The private bathhouse features what used to be large communal baths for men and women, with a spacious square stone tub, an equally large open-air bath, and two washing areas. The water temperature is consistently perfect. Post-bath local craft beer was delightful.Dinner is served in a private room with wide windows overlooking lush greenery—a meticulously prepared gourmet meal paired with local wine made for an indulgent experience (though we enjoyed it so much we missed out on bar time at the self-serve café). Nights are quiet here, with comfortable bedding ensuring restful sleep. We left a window slightly open to enjoy the fresh highland night air as we slept.Morning begins with birdsong—skilled warblers singing continuously—and an early soak in the onsen offers a different charm from evening baths. Breakfast features carefully prepared Japanese dishes using fresh local vegetables.The hospitality from both the owner and staff makes this accommodation truly exceptional.
