A relaxing Accommodation for adults.
I visited last year and had such a wonderful time that I came back. The dishes featuring wild mountain vegetables and local ingredients, the Onsen at just the right temperature (I gave it 4 points only because there is no sauna), and the warm hospitality with thoughtful, understated service are what I love most. The only downside is that the food is so delicious I end up eating too much (laugh). Recommended for adults.

An Accommodation for Enjoying a Relaxing Adults-Only Getaway
As soon as we parked, a staff member from the Accommodation came to greet us. The entrance is a short climb up a stone-stepped slope, which felt a bit unsteady—I wished there had been a handrail. After being welcomed with traditional sweets and tea, we were shown to our Room. It was more than spacious enough for two people: spotless and beautiful, with its own open-air bath. Yukata robes, samue loungewear, bathrobes, and three bath towels were provided, so we changed into yukata right away and headed to the large public bath (separate for men and women). We were told the baths switch between men and women at dinner time. Since no one else was there, I could relax in both the perfectly heated indoor bath and the covered open-air bath at my leisure. My husband said his side had a rock bath. Afterward, tokoroten was served, and there was also complimentary cold barley tea in the lobby.\n\nTo be honest, after staying the previous night at an Accommodation in Shirahone—where the hot spring water was great but the hospitality felt more for the staff’s convenience—this place already felt like going straight from hell to heaven.\n\nDinner was served in a completely private dining room. One beautifully presented dish after another arrived in wonderful variety. A sake tasting set after beer made it even more enjoyable. Still, it kept coming so steadily that we—an older couple—unfortunately couldn’t finish everything. In hindsight, stopping around the upgraded beef grilled on a ceramic plate might have been just right as our finale. It was disappointing that we had to skip items like takikomi rice and miso soup just to make room for dessert. During dinner, the proprietress came by personally to greet us. I’ve experienced this at Japanese Ryokan before years ago, but it’s rare these days—and it made me feel the warmth of being truly cared for by real people.\n\nWhen we returned to our Room, futons had been laid out; by our pillows were a pot of iced water and a letter from the proprietress; and soba sushi had been placed in the refrigerator.\n\nThe garden outside looked a little scary in total darkness, but I enjoyed our private open-air bath anyway—the temperature was perfect and I could have stayed in forever. The public baths were spacious and relaxing too, but having an open-air bath in the Room meant soaking anytime without worrying about others—and it was large enough for about four people at once—so I could truly unwind. Late at night before bed I went again; however, since the floor had already frozen over I nearly slipped and fell. Although I don’t usually use one at home، having a bathrobe ready made it easy to throw on over wet skin.\n\nIn the morning my husband used both our private open-air bath and then the public bath; I took my time soaking again in ours before breakfast—also served privately—in another dining room suite-style setting like dinner did earlier . After breakfast، coffee (delivered by what seemed like owner or manager) brought directly up into room .\n\nAn exceptional Accommodation for an indulgent adults-only getaway . We’d love return again while point card still valid .

Overall, it was a great accommodation that paid attention to details. However, the water pressure in the shower of the private open-air Onsen was not very good. Additionally, during dinner preparation, some staff members were moving around with loud footsteps. While I understand they were busy, it might be better to move more quietly. One of the drink orders for dinner that I had placed in advance was incorrect, which made me a bit anxious about whether there would be mistakes with other items like the number of Dobin-mushi I ordered or dishes I hadn't ordered arriving by mistake. That said, soaking in the Onsen after hiking was amazing! The meals were also excellent and included mushrooms I'd never tried before.

The best ever ○○○○○
Late October, stayed for 3 nights and 4 days, utilizing the third night. Check-in was at 3 PM, but I arrived slightly later than planned. The parking lot was easy to find along the road, though it felt a bit narrow and might be challenging depending on the car type. From the parking lot, there were stone stairs to climb, but a staff member kindly carried my luggage, making it easier. The experience started well... but unfortunately went downhill from there. Perhaps due to a lack of staff members or poor operations overall, it turned into a disappointing stay. At check-in, I selected a private open-air bath as part of an IKYU Diamond benefit. It was apparently a paid facility otherwise; however, I wouldn't have chosen it without the benefit—it felt underwhelming. The Room's open-air bath had a nice atmosphere despite occasional traffic noise from nearby roads—acceptable as a compromise point. The real issue was dinner. This time we chose a Plan featuring various Shinshu ingredients; however—and I apologize for saying this—not one dish stood out as delicious. Particularly disappointing was the horse sashimi: thawed frozen meat with excessive drippings that made it soggy and fell apart under its own weight when picked up with chopsticks—unacceptable quality. Overall flavors lacked distinction or purpose; dining here felt meaningless in terms of culinary experience. While serving Shinshu soba instead of rice at the end seemed like an interesting idea initially—the accompanying three kinds of pickles were overly salty and even forgotten until we pointed out their absence! They were then served alongside dessert in an awkwardly surreal moment during what became an exhausting 2-hour-and-30-minute meal filled with constant "clattering" footsteps echoing throughout—a situation so draining that any desire to voice complaints faded away entirely. The next morning at breakfast time: upon arrival we were told our table wasn’t ready yet and asked to wait briefly in another room while once again hearing those relentless "clattering" footsteps… I'll stop here before further recounting becomes too tiresome!

A Satisfying Night
I stayed on October 31st. It felt like a quiet, secluded accommodation in the forest, allowing me to enjoy a relaxing time. The dishes served one by one, the staff's hospitality, the service, and the location—all were satisfying and truly worth the accommodation fee. I would love to stay again during the hot summer as a retreat from the heat.

Ultimate Relaxation
A stay at "Tateshina Ai," nestled in the serene nature of Tateshina, offers a truly luxurious and rejuvenating experience. From the moment you check in, you are embraced by the warmth of indigo dye that permeates the Ryokan and its meticulous hospitality. The indigo-dyed futon in your Room allows for a deep, restful sleep, helping you forget the busyness of daily life. The highlight was undoubtedly the milk shabu-shabu. Each dish, beautifully presented on antique pottery and made with seasonal ingredients from Shinshu, was a delightful surprise. Especially memorable were dishes featuring local ingredients that showcased the rich flavors of Tateshina—an unforgettable culinary experience. The open-air bath with its soft alkaline simple Onsen water offers breathtaking views of Tateshina's changing seasons, melting away all fatigue. The post-bath relaxation area services were also a pleasant touch. Tateshina Ai is an exquisite retreat where you can escape city life and fully enjoy Japan's aesthetics, cuisine, and Onsen culture. I can't wait to visit again!

I am a returning guest.
This is my second stay this year, and I really like this accommodation. However, I think the meals could be improved a bit more. Regarding the signature mushroom miso soup served in the morning, although it contains plenty of mushrooms, I feel that their flavor is not fully reflected in the taste. With such a variety of mushrooms used, it seems like it could have a richer and deeper flavor.

A Trip for Elderly Couples
It was an Onsen trip to celebrate my husband's 77th birthday. The Onsen open-air bath in the room made my husband very happy. We enjoyed a delicious meal in a private dining room. The staff were very kind, and it was an accommodation we would love to visit again.

The meals were disappointing.
This is my third stay here, as I had a great impression during my previous visits over 10 years ago. The horse sashimi was very delicious, but both the sashimi platter and grilled dish featured salmon. Towards the end of dinner, raw vegetables were served, which made me wonder if rising costs are affecting ingredient choices—this was a bit disappointing. I had hoped for more seafood in the sashimi selection. The hostess worked hard, greeting guests during dinner and personally serving breakfast. Aside from the meals, everything else was satisfactory.

A quiet mountain accommodation.
Stayed at the end of October. The private open-air bath was exceptional. Both dinner and breakfast, featuring mountain delicacies with delicate seasoning, were outstanding. The presentation was also thoughtfully crafted. The craft beer was delicious, but having a locally exclusive draft beer would be even better. By the next morning, the autumn foliage had deepened, and I enjoyed matcha while admiring the beautiful autumn garden. It was just a one-night stay during our journey, but it was an unforgettable experience. I hope to visit again someday. Thank you for your hospitality!

Impressive Accommodation
My wife and I decided to travel to Shinshu and found this accommodation on IKYU.com, where we made a reservation. Wanting to show my wife beautiful scenery, we chose the Venus Line route passing through Utsukushigahara and Tateshina on our way from Matsumoto Castle to the accommodation. Our planned arrival time was 3:00 PM, and everything was going smoothly until just before reaching the Venus Line. A car in front of us kicked up a large rock, which caused me to swerve suddenly. Unfortunately, the right front tire scraped against the rock and burst. The accident occurred at an altitude of 1,560 meters where there was almost no cell phone signal. While wondering what to do next, my phone briefly picked up a signal just enough for me to call JAF for assistance. After being towed back into Matsumoto City for tire replacement, we finally arrived at the accommodation around 7:00 PM. During this time, I contacted the accommodation several times and received kind responses such as "Please take your time getting here safely" and "Let us know before you arrive so we can serve your meal warm." These words brought lightness to our otherwise heavy hearts. Upon arrival at the accommodation, we were warmly greeted with "We’ve been waiting for your safe arrival; your meal is ready." My wife and I changed into yukata in our room before heading straight to dinner. The meal featured locally sourced ingredients with creative touches that both my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed. During dinner service, the proprietress came by personally with kind words like “It must have been tough,” which reminded me of how anxious I had felt earlier about whether we'd even make it here—her hospitality truly moved us. The private open-air bath attached to our room was well-maintained with perfect water temperature and flow anytime we used it; its Onsen properties were incredibly soothing as well. While both the room accommodations and meals left a deep impression on us, what touched me most was the attentiveness of the proprietress herself. At breakfast when I placed a small tablet case alongside our room key on the table—barely noticeable—the proprietress must have seen it because later another staff member brought cold water without being asked. When I asked if I'd requested it unknowingly she replied: “The proprietress said you might need this.” Having stayed at many accommodations over time each offering memorable experiences in their own way—this place called “Tateshina Ai” stands out as truly exceptional in every aspect! Thank you very much!

Hmm...
I considered it a high-quality accommodation, but the service during dinner was very disappointing. The food was cold, and the cheese was hard, which was quite unfortunate. It would also be nice if bath towels were provided in the bathroom! The atmosphere from the gate was charming and very pleasant.

Elderly-friendly
I visited with my 93-year-old mother. The Room was on the first floor, close to both the bath and lobby, and with in-room dining minimizing movement, my elderly mother was able to relax comfortably and was very pleased. The garden with wildflowers was beautiful, and we enjoyed meals made with plenty of local ingredients. The hospitality, including evening wine, late-night snacks, and morning matcha service, was excellent!

A wonderful accommodation where you can relax at your own pace!
I visited with my mother and sister. Although we made a sudden Reservation and there were limited Room options, the Room we stayed in was spacious and lovely. We enjoyed a relaxing time in the private bath, and the meals were beautifully prepared and delicious, served in a private dining space which allowed us to dine at ease. The five unique hospitality touches were delightful, and the staff provided very attentive service. They brought a chair to our Room for my elderly mother and provided cushions for her back during meals, allowing us to spend our time comfortably. The indigo-dyed bedding was also very pleasant. Early the next morning, there was an unexpected power outage that surprised us; however, we received a thorough explanation from the staff while waiting in our Room until power was restored without any issues—what an unusual experience! During breakfast, we also received a warm greeting from the hostess. The garden with its various trees was beautiful; I imagine it must be stunning during cherry blossom or autumn foliage seasons. Thank you as well for taking our commemorative photo and sending it to us—it is now displayed in our Room! This time, our Room was on the second floor without an elevator, which made it challenging for my mother to use the stairs. Are there Rooms available on the first floor? If given another opportunity, I would love to visit again. Thank you so much for your hospitality!

Adult Getaway
The Room features a sunken kotatsu-style space, allowing you to sit comfortably with your legs down. I enjoyed reading a book from the lobby in the Room. The quiet and relaxed atmosphere provided an extraordinary experience. After dinner, there was also a scheduled time to enjoy jazz in the lobby, offering a sophisticated and fulfilling stay.

You can relax and unwind.
The meals are delicious, with plenty of fresh vegetables to enjoy. The pickles are also tasty. I tried horse sashimi, and it was excellent! The indoor bath is at a comfortable temperature, perfect for relaxing. I didn’t try the outdoor bath as the weather seemed too hot. This place is ideal for a laid-back and relaxing trip.

Accommodation for Adults
The atmosphere and facilities of the accommodation were calm and suited for adults, which was very pleasant. There were some guests with children, but as there are no features specifically designed for kids, other accommodations might be better suited for families with children. The meals used local ingredients with great attention to detail, and the portions were more than enough to feel full. It is a bit pricey, but the quality of the meals and services made it worthwhile.

Cleanliness and meals are...
I stayed in a room with an open-air bath. In the open-air bath, there were mosquitoes and centipedes, which made it difficult as I had to deal with them! Also, the open-air bath in the large public bath area felt slightly unclean due to insufficient cleaning of the stairs and corners leading up to it. As for the meals, the seasoning was not great, and it was disappointing that the broth flavor was lacking. We upgraded to stone-grilled beef, but it was A5 grade with too much fat content, which felt too heavy for us in our 60s. We would prefer leaner meat with more slices instead. Additionally, the room had a musty smell likely caused by the air conditioner; we kindly request thorough cleaning of the air conditioning system.

A Relaxing Accommodation!
We arrived a bit late as a couple, but there were plenty of staff who were all kind and attentive, allowing us to have a very comfortable stay. Thank you! Both dinner and breakfast featured wonderful menus centered around local ingredients, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The complimentary tokoroten and soba sushi were also a delightful touch!

Accommodation for a Quiet Stay
We arrived around 5 PM, and using the private bath before dinner made things a bit rushed. We enjoyed the rock bath, relaxing while admiring the fresh greenery and moss-covered garden stones. Dinner was exceptional, with the highlight being the shabu-shabu in soy milk-based broth.

The private open-air bath was exceptional.
The accommodation appears to have been renovated from an old building, and while it was clean, there were some inconveniences in usability. In particular, the private open-air bath and the washing area were located at opposite ends of the room, which was a bit bothersome. Additionally, the private open-air bath felt a bit cramped for two people, which was slightly disappointing. However, since we had a plan that included access to a reserved open-air bath, we used that instead—and it was excellent! It was spacious enough with even a reclining bath area available; highly recommended. The meals featured shabu-shabu as the main dish and were more than sufficient in quantity. That said, there didn’t seem to be any other particularly noteworthy dishes on the menu. Overall, it’s a quiet accommodation where you can relax and unwind at your own pace.

A very disappointing accommodation despite high expectations
I stayed at the accommodation for my husband's birthday. I had arranged a surprise birthday cake via email, but when I double-checked with the male staff at the front desk on the day, I was shocked by his response: "It's too late to prepare now." Even after explaining that I had sent an email, he said they don't make cakes at the accommodation and couldn't prepare one. While there could have been alternative options, their lack of hospitality was deeply disappointing. The dinner was honestly not delicious. Having dined at various accommodations and restaurants before, this was among the worst experiences I've ever had. In particular, the green pea rice served at the end had a bitter taste and peculiar smell that made it hard to eat more than one bite. The onsen also felt rather plain in terms of scenery. The only positive aspect was a friendly female staff member who guided us to our room with great hospitality. I cannot recommend this accommodation at all. If you're spending a considerable amount of money, it's wiser to choose another place to stay. The high reviews raised my expectations but left me feeling let down instead.

The bathroom was a bit disappointing. The Room bath was too small, and it was unfortunate that the private bath's water flow was insufficient. The vegetable-focused meals were good, but I would have liked a bit more meat and fish options.

Accommodation that takes time to prepare meals
Enjoy delicious food while it's still fresh. We truly had a relaxing time savoring the meal. The staff kindly served us for nearly two hours, which must have been quite an effort, but they explained everything with a smile—thank you! While leisurely dining, we almost missed the service wine during the light-up view and felt a bit rushed. It would be nice to have just a little more time to enjoy the atmosphere. The late-night soba sushi is delicious!

Thank you for your patronage.
We stayed in a two-room accommodation with a private open-air bath. The staff member assigned to us seemed unfamiliar with proper etiquette and lacked understanding of the accommodation, providing unclear explanations. When asked about the private open-air bath, they could not confirm if it was an onsen. Even when explaining the dishes, they struggled despite referring to notes. As for the room, accessing the private open-air bath from the bathroom with a washing area required passing through a tatami room, which was inconveniently designed. Additionally, the bathtub in the washing area appeared covered in black stains resembling mold, which was very unpleasant. The food offered nothing particularly delicious; instead, it seemed overly salty or seasoned with soy sauce excessively. Some dishes left us questioning their quality (especially the wine-steamed wagyu beef and mountain vegetable rice served at the end). While we enjoyed fresh vegetables in the salad, their recommended sweet miso dressing tasted strange and overpowered the vegetables' natural flavors. Regarding alcohol options, even including input from their head chef, no one could provide clear recommendations based on taste preferences—making it difficult to choose. Perhaps our expectations were too high; however, we hope this accommodation improves and becomes better in future visits.

About Dinner
The soy milk hot pot was served, but the ponzu sauce did not taste good at all and did not pair well with the soy milk. It was truly disappointing. Not only me, but my wife also found it not tasty at all. However, the breakfast was delicious.
