We were interested in the Shimanami Kaido and stayed here as a couple during Golden Week. From the website, we understood that glamping was a key selling point, so although we have no interest in glamping and wondered if it might not be for us, we chose this Hotel because no other options we wanted had availability. We were worried it might feel like an in-between experience as a Hotel, but that concern disappeared the moment we stepped out of the Shuttle Service vehicle. We were impressed by the efficient check-in staff, the first-floor entrance and dining area, and above all the beautiful view from there. The Hotel is on a small remote island with only a few residents, and we were told that only islanders’ vehicles and Hotel vehicles are allowed onto the island. We worried that once we arrived there would be nothing to do, but there were nature-based activities such as visiting caves, and we could also walk to the Shimanami Kaido suspension bridge—there wasn’t enough time for everything. Unfortunately it was drizzling with strong winds so our exploring was on foot, but if it had been sunny I think we could have rented the Hotel’s electric bicycles and gone out to Oshima and other areas. The meals featured plenty of fresh fish; the sea bream rice in particular was outstanding. Drinks are self-serve with unlimited refills, which is perfect for those who enjoy alcohol. The bath is not an Onsen, but there was plenty of hot water and thoughtfully selected amenities, so it was enjoyable. However, part of the bath in our Room looked like it was under repair: one section of wall appeared to be covered with temporary boards, with mold-like stains around that area. For that reason I lowered my rating for the guest room slightly. I expect it will be fixed soon, but it did bother me a bit. The Shuttle Service staff on both arrival and departure kindly gave us information about nearby areas as well—it was great. This is a sightseeing Hotel that can be fully enjoyed not only by young families but also by older couples like us.

In spring, the cherry blossoms were in full bloom around the Accommodation and at the Kurushima Kaikyo Observatory, making it truly beautiful. From the Japanese-style Room, the large windows were wonderful—you could even enjoy an ocean view while lying on the futon—and the Room amenities and equipment showed thoughtful attention to detail. Needless to say, the food was outstanding! All of the staff were kind and very pleasant, too. Next time—whether for a celebration, an anniversary, or simply to refresh—I want to find any excuse to stay here again.

The boat platter with spiny lobster looked like a lot, and I wondered if I could finish it, but it was so delicious that I ate it all in no time. Their signature nanbanzuke was also excellent. I’d love to stay again.

Everything—the Room, the bath, and the meals—was excellent, but above all, the staff were truly outstanding. Even though we caused you trouble with changes to the Shuttle Service pickup location due to our circumstances and issues such as a locker malfunction in the bath area, you responded with great kindness. My daughter and I kept saying how glad we were that we stayed here. Thank you very much. We expect to visit the island several more times in the future, so we will continue to stay at your Accommodation.

We stayed at the accommodation for a three-generation trip, as it was strongly requested by our grandchild. We didn't see any other Japanese guests during our stay. If we were more fluent in English, it would have been an even more enjoyable experience. We had breakfast at the attached café in the morning. Both the accommodation and café were stylishly designed and lovely places to be. The shower room was clean, though there was no bathtub. However, as Japanese people, especially seniors, we do miss soaking in a bath.

Stayed for a multiple night stay and had a comfortable experience. *Highlights:* 1. Accommodation allows large dogs, and they can move freely indoors (no need for cages). 2. Well-equipped kitchen for self-catering (various utensils, cutlery, cookware provided; bring your own seasonings). 3. Separate toilet and bath. 4. Equipped with air conditioning, TV, washing machine, and vacuum cleaner. 5. Bedding included (we only used the mattress and slept in our own sleeping bags). 6. Clean interior with no odors; quiet surroundings allowed for a relaxing stay. 7. Pet supplies provided in the accommodation. *Concerns:* 1. Many mosquitoes around the building made it difficult to have a barbecue outside. 2. Entrance from the road was hard to find and easy to miss. 3. The detergent compartment of the washing machine was moldy, making cleaning it quite challenging before use.

The Room’s interior, Facilities, size, and location were all excellent. I wish I could end my review there, but there was one very disappointing issue. On the morning of the third day (Saturday) of our two-night stay, I found a spider about 10 cm in diameter in the bathroom during a morning bath. The spider itself may have come in when opening or closing the door or windows, and given the natural surroundings—and since I noticed it right before checkout—it wasn’t a major problem. The real issue was what came next. Since new guests might be staying that day, and some people may dislike insects or small children might encounter it (it was large enough to surprise even me), I worried it could ruin their trip. I called the published phone number, but only reached an automated message saying it was outside business hours. I also checked the pre-stay email guidance but couldn’t find any emergency contact information. I understand this Accommodation operates differently from a Ryokan or Hotel, but for situations where guests need to contact someone immediately during their stay (it doesn’t have to be public), there should at least be an emergency contact number provided to guests. In this case, I hope housekeeping removed the spider so the next guests could stay comfortably. However, please recognize that not being able to resolve urgent issues smoothly by phone can potentially ruin a trip, and consider setting up proper emergency contact arrangements. As mentioned at the start, this is an excellent Facility overall—but this one drawback alone makes me hesitate to book again.
