Kusatsu Onsen Aeru Yado Takamatsu

It was conveniently located for visiting all the sightseeing spots in Kusatsu Onsen.We used both the on-site baths and the main building’s private bath, and were able to relax.Both dinner and breakfast were generous in portion size and delicious.Although it snowed on and off, we were given rides by car to the bus terminal and the main building, which was a great help.

We stayed in the “Reiro” Japanese-modern special Room (Japanese-Western style) with two private open-air baths as three guests: two adults and one child (age 2). The Room isn’t very large, but having the open-air baths made that a non-issue. Both baths were set to a fairly hot temperature, and we enjoyed each one. The weather was great, and the night sky with a full moon and stars made the atmosphere perfect. Dinner was served at the annex, and the portions were quite generous. If you plan to snack around before dinner, be careful—it can get too much. (Due to circumstances I couldn’t drink alcohol, but even so there was more than enough food.) Overall it felt more about quantity than flavor, though it wasn’t that the food was bad. The grilled Wagyu chateaubriand, in particular, was cooked perfectly and delicious. Breakfast was a buffet. The selection wasn’t large, but it was well balanced and very satisfying. One thing to note: you Reserve your breakfast time at check-in, and when we arrived around 5 p.m., only the 7 a.m. or 9 a.m. slots were still available. If you have plans for the next day, it’s best to check in early to secure your preferred time slot. The staff were also very polite and helpful in Japanese, which we appreciated. We’ll definitely choose Reiro again next time.
