Maruto Soy Sauce, the oldest soy sauce brewery in Nara Prefecture, has been reborn as a soy sauce brewery where you can stay overnight.Founded in 1689, Maruto Soy Sauce was once a purveyor to the Imperial Household and even hosted members of the Imperial Family. However, after World War II, the brewery was forced to close due to the inability to procure satisfactory raw materials. Now, after 70 years, the brewery has been revived as a place to stay, using the microorganisms left in the brewery, locally sourced ingredients, and brewing methods uncovered from ancient documents. From traveler to brewer. We offer an experience where you can fully immerse yourself in the revival of soy sauce, local resources, and the timeless landscapes of Yamato.
A tranquil accommodation nestled at the foot of Nishiyama Tumulus, along Japan's oldest road, "Yamanobe no Michi." With the concept of "Living with Ancient Tombs," we share the wisdom of coexisting with nature through accommodation, dining, and experiences. The accommodation and dining buildings are designed based on the ancient Chinese philosophy of "Yin-Yang and Five Elements," themed around the five elements: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. Immerse yourself in a journey that engages all your senses as you experience nature's cycles through this philosophy and feel the flow of time connecting ancient Nara to modern life. Enjoy a moment to return to your origins in this serene place where past and present quietly converge. A portion of your stay fee contributes to maintaining tumuli and their surrounding environment.
