Despite this loss, with encouragement from numerous supporters, we are proud to announce its revival as the new "Matsusho-so" on March 1, 2024. The building incorporates design elements of the original Matsusho-so while embracing traditional Sukiya architecture that harmonizes with nature. Each room features a private open-air bath overlooking a small garden where guests can enjoy seasonal landscapes. We have created a space that feels "new yet somehow nostalgic." Opened on September 2, 2007. Named "Masuichi Kyakuden" from the sentiment of the owner of Masuichi: "Ideally, I would welcome you to stay at my home..." Designed by architect John Morford, who also designed "Kurabu" and the main store of "Masuichi Ichimura Sake Brewery," this accommodation embodies his vision of a place he would want to stay when visiting Obuse. It consists of seven wooden buildings centered around three relocated earthen storehouses from a long-established sugar wholesaler in Nagano, with interiors fully furnished in Western style.
