Enjoy Onsen from two different on-site hot springs! The large public baths include two nature-inspired baths: “Birdsong,” themed around a bird’s nest, and “River Whisper,” themed around rocks. Unique in Sounkyo, you can experience two distinct on-site hot spring sources: the milky-white bath and the reddish-brown bath. The mineral-rich Onsen, full of natural deposits, is known for its skin-beautifying benefits.

Inspired by the Daisetsuzan Mountain Range—known as the “Roof of Hokkaido” and often compared to the European Alps—we offer original dishes created with motifs from regional cuisines, mainly from four countries around the Alps.

In the Sounkyo area, Asahi Resort Hotel is the only property offering a bedrock bath and private reservable baths. Available to both women and men, it’s also recommended for couples.

Mount Choyo stands in front of the Hotel, and from the moment you step into the lobby, you are welcomed by a Western-style atmosphere like a mountain resort. You may also hear the gentle murmur of the river and even encounter Ezo squirrels or deer.

The mountain views from the Kurodake Ropeway are breathtaking! In autumn, you can enjoy Japan’s earliest fall foliage. There are many other highlights as well, including Ginga and Ryusei Falls—selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Waterfalls—Asahiyama Zoo, and the winter Icefall Festival. With no obstructions, on clear nights you can also experience a sky filled with countless stars.
