Swiss-style resort with canyon views, international cuisine, and a bedrock-style bath

Asahi Resort Hotel stands in a setting reminiscent of a Swiss mountain resort, surrounded by majestic peaks and abundant nature. Warm wood accents fill the Hotel, and you can relax in the guest rooms or lobby while taking in panoramic views of Sounkyo’s unique gorge. For dining, enjoy original dishes inspired by regional cuisines from Switzerland, France, Italy, and Germany. “Iyashidokoro Yururu” offers a bedrock sauna that can be used together by men and women, as well as private baths—ideal for couples and trips with someone special.

  • We visited with a total of 10 people, including our children and grandchildren. It was our first time at this Hotel, and we were very satisfied. Check-in was a bit crowded, but the front desk staff repeatedly said, “We’re sorry to keep you waiting; we’ll assist you shortly,” which made us feel well cared for, so we checked in without any complaints even while waiting. The amenities were also well stocked. Meals were buffet-style with a wide variety of options, and everyone really enjoyed it—we were all very satisfied with the food. The hallways and other areas were well heated too, which we appreciated. Overall there was nothing to complain about, but considering the size of the Hotel, the bath area felt small. The Onsen water quality was excellent as well. We visit Onsen quite often, and this is a Hotel that made us want to come back again.

Onsen

Nature-themed Onsen: “Birdsong” and “River Whisper”

Enjoy Onsen from two different on-site hot springs! The large public baths include two nature-inspired baths: “Birdsong,” themed around a bird’s nest, and “River Whisper,” themed around rocks. Unique in Sounkyo, you can experience two distinct on-site hot spring sources: the milky-white bath and the reddish-brown bath. The mineral-rich Onsen, full of natural deposits, is known for its skin-beautifying benefits.

Sauna

Refresh from the inside out with self-service löyly.

“Löyly” is a Finnish sauna ritual in which aromatic water is poured over sauna stones to create hot steam, quickly raising the room temperature and perceived heat to promote sweating. It can help reduce the prickly skin sensation and shortness of breath often associated with dry saunas. Repeating “sauna → cold bath → rest” about three times is said to bring you into a deeply relaxed, refreshed state known as “totonoi,” and this method has gained popularity among sauna enthusiasts in recent years.
