Gero Onsen Yamagataya
Gifu Prefecture/GeroRelax in a traditional setting while savoring seasonal cuisine and enjoying renowned hot springs.
Gero Onsen Yamagataya was established in the late Edo period, during the Tenpo era. Since its founding, the desire for "visitors to Yamagataya to feel more relaxed than at home and return rejuvenated" and the relaxing spaces cultivated over time have been Yamagataya's greatest attractions. Enjoy seasonal handmade dishes featuring Hida beef, local ingredients, and fresh seafood directly sourced from the market, along with the abundant hot spring waters in the large communal bath and open-air baths.
We stayed for one night over the final weekend of March, blessed with great weather and with the cherry blossoms close to full bloom. We stayed on the 7th floor of Tokawakan, which was renovated three years ago. The Room was clean, with Ryukyu tatami mats and twin beds, and the view of the Hida River from the window was wonderful. At night, we could even watch fireworks from our Room. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, and we were very satisfied.Of course our stay was excellent, but when I made the Reservation I mentioned that this trip was to celebrate my husband’s retirement and that we were really looking forward to it. At check-out, Yamagataya had prepared a commemorative gift with a message for us, which truly moved us.It became a memorable and wonderful trip.Thank you very much.
Yahoo!トラベルユー... 4/5/2026Conclusion: Highly recommended!First, we arrived at the parking lot, left our luggage and car, and went sightseeing around the Gero Onsen town. They came right away and assisted us kindly and courteously. The meals were not buffet-style, but the taste and portions were more than sufficient, and everything was delicious. The staff member who guided us during meals was also a foreign national, but their Japanese was excellent—polite, accurate, and impressive. Our youngest daughter seemed to have a couple of dishes she didn’t really like. After dinner, there were fireworks hosted by Gero City—absolutely wonderful. It had been a long time since we’d watched them from so close, and our whole family was truly moved. The Onsen lived up to its reputation as one of Japan’s three most famous hot springs—our skin felt silky smooth and deeply moisturized! It was our first family trip in a while, and we would love to visit again.

Introduction of the Accommodation

A relaxing property continuing from the Edo period
Yamagataya was established in the first year of the Bunka era during the Edo period. The relaxing space, cultivated over time with the desire that "those who visit Yamagataya feel more at ease than at home and return revitalized," is Yamagataya's greatest charm.

Located along the Hida River (Masuda River) flowing through the center of Gero Onsen, you can enjoy the scenery that changes with the seasons. The Gero fireworks, held several times in summer and winter, can be viewed from within the facility.

Our facility is located just a 1-2 minute walk from the Gero Onsen town, making it very convenient. You can change into stylish yukata and enjoy strolling through the Onsen town, exploring foot baths and galleries. The promenade along the Hida River under Yamagataya is also one of the attractions.
