Ohara Onsen

With a water temperature of 27.9°C and abundant flow of approximately 120 liters per minute from a depth of 1,175 meters, this is one of the rare Onsen in the Kyoto Basin with proven benefits. The water is colorless, transparent, and gentle on the skin, making it suitable for recovery after illness or injury. It contains bicarbonate ions that provide a "smooth skin effect" and a refreshing sensation after bathing. Additionally, with a pH value of 8.7 (mildly alkaline), its sodium and bicarbonate ions help soften keratin on the skin for a silky smooth feel, offering effects similar to those of "beauty baths." [Benefits] ■ Neuralgia ■ Muscle pain ■ Joint pain ■ Sensitivity to cold ■ Fatigue recovery

The courtyard of Ohara no Sato is designed to preserve the natural beauty of the surrounding Ohara mountains without over-manipulating its landscape. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom. A majestic 150-year-old wild cherry tree stands gracefully, celebrating the joy of spring with its full bloom. In summer, lush greenery thrives. The vibrant green trees reflect on the surface of a small pond, offering a refreshing atmosphere even in the heat of summer. In autumn, maple leaves take center stage. The fiery red foliage deepens day by day, making autumn one of the most popular seasons in Ohara as it beautifully colors the courtyard. In winter, snow blankets the scenery. The contrast between deep green moss and trees covered with soft white snow creates an enchanting view.

  • [Ayu Fish Shabu-Shabu (Example)]

Now accepting June reservations. Ayu Shabu-Shabu Plan to savor summer in Ohara, Kyoto.

We offer a seasonal “Ayu Shabu Plan” to enjoy from early summer.

Each guest will be served 3 ayu sweetfish:
    2 for ayu shabu + 1 salt-grilled ayu, a popular summer-only Plan.
The meal also includes Kamo eggplant dengaku and white miso ice cream, offering distinctly Kyoto flavors.

Our ayu shabu features a broth based on Rishiri kelp and bonito dashi,
with our house-made miso—crafted by a miso shop—used as a subtle secret ingredient.
Lightly swished through the kelp broth, the fish becomes tender and fluffy, bringing out the fragrant aroma of ayu—an early-summer hot pot experience.

In June, Ohara is at its best with beautiful fresh greenery, making it an ideal season to stroll around Sanzen-in Temple and Jakkoin Temple.
It is also popular with guests planning a Kyoto trip focused on local cuisine and summer seasonal flavors.

Come visit Ohara to savor these early-summer delicacies for a limited time.
