It all started with a single soba shop. A 7-room accommodation offering the traditional "Yakushi Soba."
This accommodation, Juraku Ryokan, has a long history in Shima Onsen, originally starting as a soba noodle shop. Located near Yakushido and Gomuso-no-Yu, it began by serving soba to onsen visitors coming for worship. This tradition has been passed down through generations and continues today with the third generation of ownership. Using the same method since its founding and the delicious water of Shima, we prepare soba daily with care and dedication. You can now enjoy this traditional flavor during dinner at our accommodation. Savor the refined taste crafted with precision and tradition.
Sample Dishes
At Soya Ryokan, meals are served in your Room for both breakfast and dinner. Dinner features a traditional Japanese meal set, showcasing seasonal seafood and mountain delicacies that can be enjoyed as a meal or paired with sake. Breakfast is a gentle Japanese-style set meal designed to start your day pleasantly. While we recommend trying our soba noodles, another highlight is the "Joshu Wagyu" marbled beef steak grilled on a ceramic plate. This premium beef comes from cattle raised in the rich natural environment surrounded by the Tone River's clear streams and Gunma Prefecture's famous mountains (Mount Akagi, Mount Haruna, and Mount Myogi). It boasts refined flavors of fat with a melt-in-your-mouth texture that is truly delightful.
Bath
Suzuya Ryokan offers a shared rock bath (indoor) and a free private open-air bath. The Shima hot spring water is traditionally believed to be effective for "Shima no Yamai" (various ailments), offering a soft and gentle touch unique to its pure, free-flowing source. Rich in the moisturizing component "metasilicic acid," it promotes skin cell renewal and provides excellent beauty benefits. Enjoy your stay and leave with smooth, radiant skin!
Okushimako Lake
When visiting our facility, be sure to explore "Oku-Shima Lake." This man-made dam lake, created by the Shima River Dam, is renowned for its breathtaking cobalt blue surface. The stunning color is said to result from sunlight penetrating the water, where red light is absorbed and only blue and green light reach our eyes (though there are various theories). On your way to Oku-Shima Lake, stop by "Hinatsumi Park," where you can marvel at the massive 89.5-meter-high dam wall from its base. This spot is also well worth a visit!
