  • A Quiet New Year in Kyoto

    I stayed at Tassel Hotel with my daughter before her university graduation to visit Kyoto for the New Year’s shrine visit. It’s about a 15-minute walk from Kiyomizu Temple. Walking down the lively slope and along Shirakawa River, we arrived at this compact and beautiful hotel. We had asked in advance for restaurant recommendations nearby and made a reservation, so we enjoyed delicious and warm meals. Back at the hotel, there were free drinks and snacks available from 6 PM to 10 PM, which was wonderful. The room and bathroom were very satisfying as well. It’s close to Heian Shrine and incredibly quiet overall. The breakfast buffet had fewer options but felt just right. The New Year sake was also a delightful touch! Staying near Sanjo Shirakawa turned out to be an excellent choice—definitely planning to stay here again!
