Accommodation with Open-Air Baths in Every Room Overlooking the Sea - Haifu

Mie Prefecture/Shima City

A tranquil moment on the island: Accommodation with open-air bath rooms offering ocean views in every room.

Toshikojima, a small island floating in an inlet of Ise-Shima, has a circumference of just 7 km. Surrounded by the rich nature of the calm Matoya Bay, which changes its character with the seasons, this is a place that feels somehow nostalgic, where a gentle breeze carrying the scent of the sea awaits travelers. A 3-minute ferry ride is the prologue to your stay at Haifu. All Rooms feature an open-air bath with ocean views. Our Onsen is a natural therapeutic hot spring drawn from our own private source, and we offer two Facilities with distinct features: a garden open-air bath and an observation bath. For dining, we serve creative Japanese-Western kaiseki cuisine, allowing you to fully savor the seasonal flavors of Ise-Shima, known as “Miketsukuni.” Please enjoy a relaxing and peaceful time.

  • Just getting there by boat makes the trip feel even more special. All of the staff were extremely courteous, and heaters were placed in many spots along the walkway to the garden open-air bath so guests wouldn’t get cold. Their guest-first hospitality truly made us happy. The building itself may be old, but it has been beautifully renovated and was very comfortable to stay in.We were able to relax deeply—thank you very much.

  • Crossing to the island by boat reminded me of Vinpearl Island in Nha Trang, Vietnam. There was an attendant at the parking lot, and they also arranged the boat for us. It takes about a 5-minute walk from the parking lot to the pier, about a 5-minute wait for the boat, and about a 5-minute ride. There was no seasickness at all. After arriving at the Accommodation, we enjoyed a welcome drink, a luxurious dinner featuring spiny lobster and beef, and breakfast with spiny lobster miso soup. The meals were truly indulgent. The Room was quiet with two beds, an open-air bath in the Room, a large TV, and of course a washlet toilet. The open-air bath was spacious enough for two people comfortably, with a washing area right next to it. With late-April warmth that day, it was wonderfully relaxing. It was a truly luxurious Accommodation.

Savor the gourmet delights of Ise-Shima, known as the “Land of Food,” with our chef’s carefully crafted Japanese-Western kaiseki course.

Ise-Shima has long been known as Miketsukuni, a land that once supplied the Imperial Court with food, and its diverse cuisine—nurtured by the blessings of sea and mountains—continues to captivate visitors today. Spiny lobster raised in its rich waters, firm local fish, carefully grown vegetables, and locally brewed sake made with pure water all enhance the region’s culinary appeal. We present the seasonal flavors of Ise-Shima in an original Japanese-Western kaiseki course.

Onsen
A rare therapeutic hot spring in Mie Prefecture—enjoy high-quality Onsen water flowing from 1,300 meters underground.

At the garden open-air Onsen “Kazamachi-no-Yu,” we offer a variety of baths with different atmospheres, including an indoor bath, a hinoki cypress bath, a rock bath, a waterfall massage bath, a walking bath, and a reclining bath. At the panoramic large public bath on the top floor, you can also enjoy views of the morning and evening sky from an open and airy setting. We also have private open-air Onsen baths and a footbath. The spring is a sodium-calcium chloride type that is gentle on the skin and highly effective for warmth retention and moisturizing; in addition to bathing benefits, it can also be drunk and is expected to help stimulate digestion as an “Onsen for the stomach.”
