A 400-year-old traditional accommodation located on a hill in Echigo Yuzawa Onsen. The view from the panoramic bath is especially stunning, offering a sweeping vista of the town of Yuzawa and the Tanigawa mountain range. Relaxing in the natural flowing Onsen while enjoying this scenery enhances the sense of freedom during your journey.
After work in Niigata City, I chose this accommodation as a reward for myself, drawn to the onsen with free-flowing hot spring water and a room with a private bath. I selected the "Retreat Plan." You can experience tasks like setting up your own meal at the table or laying out your futon, which means no staff enters your room during your stay, offering a comfortable balance between hotel and ryokan experiences without any pressure.The meals were all delicious, though I wish I could have tried noppe. The highlight is definitely the onsen. The water in the guestroom is different from that of the public bath—pure free-flowing hot spring water. The public bath was lukewarm yet felt hot; opening the windows to cool it down before entering is recommended. The abundant flow of water, its sound pouring into the tub, and lantern lighting melted away my fatigue and provided deep relaxation. My skin became soft and smooth while my whole body stayed warm.I enjoyed soaking while admiring snowy landscapes. In the morning, breathtaking views of nearby mountain ranges, sunrise scenes, and even Shinkansen trains were visible—a luxurious sight indeed. Accommodations offering free-flowing hot springs at such reasonable prices are now rare treasures. This place has been added to my list of accommodations I'd love to visit again!
茶こ 12/21/2025This time, we traveled with our friends as a couple. The meals were served in the room and were very delicious. The freshly cooked rice was so tasty that we ate until we were full. The onsen was also fantastic. Choosing Nakaya was the right decision. It’s an accommodation that makes you want to visit again.

An expansive open-air hot spring with natural flowing water.
The Onsen water, sourced from a spring that has been flowing for hundreds of years since before the formation of the stalactite cave in the back mountain, is used in both the large public bath and the open-air bath. In the special room with a private open-air bath, a different type of spring water is used, offering a unique Onsen experience unavailable in other rooms. The gentle and smooth texture of the water comes from its abundant flow that has never ceased throughout its long history. With high alkalinity and mineral content, it can be described as natural hot mineral water. Both men’s and women’s open-air baths are roofless, providing a liberating experience. The view is truly breathtaking and expansive.
