Grand Nikko Tokyo Bay Maihama

We stayed as a family of four—my wife and I, our 2-year-old daughter, and our 0-year-old son!Since we eat chicken and popcorn at DisneySea and Disneyland, we intentionally chose the No Meals Included plan.And our reliable ally was…the lounge! HahaWhen we wanted a quick snack: the lounge.When we wanted to watch the fireworks at a relaxed pace: the lounge.When we wanted some bread on departure morning: the lounge.…We ended up using the lounge so much that it felt like we were basically “staying in the lounge” as a family!The staff were very kind—they waved to our daughter and son and chatted with us, making it a comfortable place to stay.As soon as we left the Hotel in the car on our way home, my wife and I said, “Next time, it’s this Hotel again!”If you plan to use the lounge, it might be helpful to check in advance what is served at each time of day.

When can we stay again?! We went to Tokyo Disneyland on a warm Friday at the end of February. Looking around, most people our age seemed to be there with their children or grandchildren. Still, the crowds were far beyond what we expected for a weekday. Even the coin lockers nearby were full, so we just kept walking and walking—quite a change from our usual car-based routine. As expected, we were completely worn out, so choosing a dinner Plan at the Hotel was absolutely the right call.At TDL we had rushed through lunch, so we made a Reservation for 5:30 p.m., right when the restaurant opened. It was still quiet then, and we could start dinner in a relaxed atmosphere. The Plan with either three drinks or two drinks included is great! I ordered a Chivas Regal Mizunara highball and went to get food. Considering how spacious the restaurant is, I felt the selection was a bit limited—but overall everything tasted very good. The large roast pork carved and served for us was even better than expected.More than anything, what made dinner wonderful was the Hotel staff member serving alcohol: he even noticed I had taken roast pork and kindly said that it pairs well with the highball (Chivas Regal Mizunara). He also spoke to us while we were paying. This is true Hotel hospitality—such a lovely time. Couples our age are probably in the minority at this restaurant.In the morning, there was an online system where you make a Reservation and go to the restaurant once you receive your notice; even so, it was crowded. Breakfast was fun with lots of variety.I’ve loved the atrium ever since before it became Grand Nikko—the moment you enter this Hotel feels special. This was my second stay since it changed to Grand Nikko, and once again I enjoyed that unique “getaway” feeling that only a Hotel can offer.If I had to mention one thing: some of the cleaning staff we saw in the hallway didn’t really greet guests much. Our Room was kept beautifully and we had such an enjoyable stay; although they weren’t passing directly by us every time, when I tried to greet them as thanks they would quickly move on. That part felt slightly disappointing—though with so many Rooms to take care of, I’m sure it’s demanding work.We’re looking forward to coming back again someday soon.
