A small Hotel in Tango where “a calm heart and your ideal everyday life” come true

About a 2.5-hour drive from central Osaka and Kyoto, Lake Hanareko—the largest freshwater lake in Kyoto Prefecture—lies in the Tango area, where beautiful yet unspoiled scenery remains, and is close to Ine’s Funaya boat houses and Amanohashidate. “HOTEL & Kotei Soka” is a small Hotel on its shore that celebrated its grand opening in May 2024. Ripples left by waterfowl on the lake, the splash of wildlife diving in, the crisp air at dawn, a terrace dappled with sunlight filtered through willows, the colors of the evening sky, abundant local ingredients nurtured by Tango’s climate, carefully selected natural wines, an Onsen to soothe your body—and a welcoming space surrounded by interiors and art curated from what we love. A calm heart and an ideal everyday life await you here.

  • The lakeside is simply the best... The interior design was beautiful and charming, making it feel like a place anyone would love. It had a Nordic × botanical × lakeside vibe (if that makes sense). Everything was just perfect. When it gets a bit warmer, I’d love to enjoy drinks by the outdoor fireplace while gazing at the starry sky. This time, I stayed with my husband, but next time I’d love to visit for a girls' getaway!

  • My mother and I stayed in the Villa Fuyu Room. The modern interior design was exactly my style. The lake view from the Room’s garden was beautiful, and it was quiet and relaxing. The crab-focused dinner was also delicious.Overall, everything was wonderful, but if I had to mention a few points:- There was no scale for using the drip coffee set in the Room, which felt a bit inconvenient- Netflix wasn’t available- The Onsen washing area had only three stations, and the open-air bath felt a little small- I’d be happy if a Japanese breakfast option becomes available in the futureI would definitely stay again!

Introduction of the Accommodation

View

Small artworks and nature that enhance the Hotel

Inspired by the Nordic concept of “hygge.” In Danish, hygge refers to a cozy, comfortable space and the warm, uplifting moments that come with it. We’ve added thoughtful touches throughout so guests can experience hygge for themselves. One highlight is the interior design created by talented makers. Simply spending time in this simple yet refined space—rich in natural wood—brings a quiet sense of calm.

Room Types to Suit Your Travel Needs

A coastal area where snowfall in winter is not uncommon. Unlike the ancient capital of Kyoto that many people imagine, this is another side of Kyoto—where nature welcomes you gently and beautifully. The private villa “Kotei” lets you fully enjoy this generous natural setting with a garden and pool, and in winter, cozy moments by the wood-burning stove. We also offer a variety of Room types: the “Concept Room” with a view bath and terrace for relaxing, the “Standard Room” featuring a charming daybed by the window, and the “Workation Room” equipped with a desk.

Onsen

Refresh your mind and body in the Onsen

At the back of the garden, you’ll find an Onsen building. Enjoy a relaxing soak with an open, airy feel as you take in the garden views—an experience that truly feels like a getaway. Let the warm water melt away daily fatigue and tension, and feel your senses come into balance. Hatchohama Kohama Onsen is a sodium- and calcium-chloride spring, said to be beneficial for neuralgia, muscle pain, chronic digestive issues, and sensitivity to cold.

Sample Meal Options

A candlelit restaurant offering exciting wood-fired cuisine and natural wines

We offer creative cuisine rooted in Italian cooking, incorporating Tango’s local specialties and the seasonal bounty of the Sea of Japan. Prepared with a focus on a wood-fired oven and open flame, using seafood personally sourced by our chef and organic vegetables from local farmers. Each dish showcases vibrant, seasonal ingredients, paired with carefully selected natural wines chosen by our selector. Softly flickering candlelight makes your evening truly unforgettable.

Lake Garden

Lake Garden, where lush greenery and flowers sway in the breeze

In the Meadow Garden, where herbs and trees sway in the breeze, the Fire Lounge offers a relaxing spot to unwind while watching the flickering flames. Enjoy a romantic, calming chill time as you take in the ever-changing colors of the sky and gaze up at the sparkling stars. A popular place to stop by after the spa or to cool off in the evening breeze.

Hanare Lake Park is home to around 300 cherry trees of various types, blooming one after another.
Loved by locals as a spot for cherry-blossom viewing and leisurely walks, it’s a perfect place to enjoy the season.
From early April, Somei Yoshino and double-flowered cherry blossoms come into bloom in turn, allowing you to enjoy hanami over an extended period.
