I was able to relax in the large public bath, which helped relieve the fatigue from our trip. The Room also had a separate bath and toilet, making it very comfortable to use, and the staff were courteous—my sons were very satisfied as well. The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of dishes, and everything was delicious. When I visit Kyoto again, I would like to stay here again.
ちえぽん 3/22/2026This was my first time staying here. The property’s calm atmosphere facing Shinmachi Street was very nice. It’s close to Shijo-Karasuma, so it’s convenient for getting anywhere and perfect for a stay in Kyoto. I stayed for 3 nights on a Plan with breakfast, and as with Jokyoji, I appreciated being able to choose a different menu each day. I was also happy to enjoy dessert every day at the shop in the neighboring kura storehouse.

Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Shinmachi Bettei is located on the site of the former "Kyoto Office and Textile Reference Museum of Matsuzakaya." The property faces Shinmachi Street, a charming area where floats line up during the Gion Festival. The exterior design incorporates a setback for floors above the third level to harmonize with the streetscape, while preserving and utilizing a traditional storehouse facing Shinmachi Street. Additionally, elements such as paving stones and beams from the old building are repurposed in the interior design.
Entrance
The relocated and restored large beams and main pillars convey the memory of the former Matsuzakaya Kyoto Procurement Store to the present.
Reclaimed wood from supplier shops and traditional kosode designs. A vivid blend of harmony and innovation, showcasing the beauty of "wood."
3rd Floor Rooftop Garden
Views of "stones" featuring Kamo Seven Stones and foundation stones from the former Matsuzakaya, adding charm to areas such as the entrance garden, courtyard, and rooftop garden.
A separate space utilizing a traditional storehouse.
A restaurant space with modern touches to traditional plaster walls. The detached area features a serene atmosphere, preserving and utilizing an existing storehouse made of "earth."
