A Trip to Honor Your Parents

My younger daughter had stayed here with friends before and recommended it, so the four of us—my mother, my older sister, my eldest daughter, and I—came to stay. It was a Ryokan we were completely satisfied with in every way! Above all, the view from the Room is breathtaking—you can see the ocean right in front of you with white-capped waves. We stayed in a Japanese-Western style Room; it was clean and simple, and the beds were very comfortable. The interior of the building is stylish and spotless as well! Both the large public bath and the private baths have amazing views. In the paid private bath, you can enjoy a beer while soaking in the tub, and there’s also a sauna and even swing-style chairs—it’s very stylish and perfect for young couples! Both dinner and breakfast were absolutely delicious. Even my 84-year-old mother finished everything. The food truly lived up to its reputation. After checkout we left our luggage there, took a walk nearby, and when we returned they kindly drove only our family to the station on the Ryokan shuttle bus. The service was attentive throughout, with warm and pleasant hospitality. This is a highly satisfying Ryokan that I can recommend to guests of all ages—from young travelers to seniors!

    Overall, it was good.

The bath and the meals were both excellent. The female staff member who served our meals was very courteous, which we appreciated. We would like to stay again. Thank you for helping make our trip so enjoyable.

An Accommodation to Enjoy Great Food and Beautiful Scenery

This is my favorite Accommodation, and I have stayed here many times. Each visit offers the same comfort and a reassuring, relaxing stay. The view from the Room is wonderful, with a panoramic ocean vista that soothes the soul. The bath while gazing out at the sea was especially memorable, allowing me to enjoy a leisurely and luxurious time. Above all, the meals are truly delicious, and I look forward to them every time. The dishes make the most of high-quality ingredients, are beautifully presented, and were deeply satisfying. This is an Accommodation I want to keep coming back to.

    Perfect balance!

The overall balance felt inconsistent. The Facility was well maintained and clean, which was great. Is the background music in the building a harp? The service raised expectations, with even the male staff wearing kimono, so we ended up comparing it to other similar Accommodations. When we received a confirmation call, I mentioned that my wife doesn’t like sashimi, and we were told shabu-shabu would be provided, but it wasn’t available at dinner. At breakfast, however, the staff thoughtfully accommodated us. There were various other small oversights as well, but their wonderful smiles made us forget about them. Many of the meals at both breakfast and dinner seemed pre-made; considering the room rate, it was disappointing. There was also very little our child could eat. Overall, all of the staff had great smiles, and that made up for everything. Thank you very much.

    It’s spotless.

The in-room dining was excellent, and the attendants provided outstanding service. We enjoyed a delicious meal, and the wide variety of dishes truly lived up to its reputation as an Accommodation known for great food. There were many different types of baths, and we could relax for over an hour without getting bored. All the staff were friendly, making it a very pleasant Hotel. We will definitely come again.

    It was an Accommodat...

It was an Accommodation where you could truly feel their policy of always striving to embody the culture of a Ryokan.

Hearty, generous portions are our highlight.

Thank you for accommodating us even though we made a last-minute Reservation the day before. With the ocean right in front of you, the large Onsen bath on the 8th floor feels wonderfully open and offers a fantastic view. It was cold when I stepped out to the open-air bath due to strong winds, so I ended up soaking in the Onsen for a long, relaxing time. The Hotel’s signature meals are incredibly generous in portion size. The sashimi boat platter and simmered golden eye snapper were especially delicious. I personally don’t like leaving food, so I finished everything, but honestly it would have been fine if there had been a little less (sorry—everything was truly delicious; there was just so much). I was also surprised to see a boat platter served at breakfast!

Guest Room “Suigetsu” with Open-Air Bath

I visit every year, and this was about my fifth stay. The price was over 200,000 yen, but the hospitality and meals were outstanding and truly worth it. Each time, they invest hundreds of millions of yen in large-scale renovations to add value and successfully attract guests—yet they never act pretentious. They cherish what a Japanese Ryokan is all about and the spirit of Japanese hospitality, which I find genuinely wonderful. The Onsen water temperature was a bit lukewarm at night, which was disappointing, but when I contacted them they responded immediately. It became lukewarm again after 10 p.m., and when I reached out once more, the maintenance staff came rushing over with a smile even after returning home. I actually felt bad for calling again, but their response was extremely pleasant. I only stay in suites that cost 200,000 yen or more anywhere I go, but it’s rare to find an Accommodation where the attentiveness, hospitality, meals—everything—is perfect to this level. I will definitely stay again. Next time, I’m looking forward to the best Room that I couldn’t Reservation this time! One more thing: it seems the selection of alcohol has decreased. Please stock some higher-end options as well.

An Accommodation as Great to Eat at as It Is to Stay In

As an Accommodation that truly lives up to its reputation for food, we were very satisfied with both dinner and breakfast. The kamameshi at dinner was so filling that we ended up with one serving left over, but they kindly made it into rice balls for a late-night snack. Breakfast also included a beautifully arranged sashimi platter, and we enjoyed it at a relaxed pace. Every dish was prepared with care and was delicious. The wide variety of small portions was especially nice for women who want to try everything. Parking is along the coast, and the wind was particularly strong that day. They lightly rinsed our car before we left, but after being exposed to the salty sea breeze, washing it again after returning home was quite a task. Thank you for washing the car and moving it for us in the cold, windy weather. The three of us visited—my husband, our son who lives alone, and me. Our son didn’t have high expectations because the exterior felt old-fashioned, but perhaps after renovations, both the Room and bath area were clean and well maintained. He was especially pleased that there was also a sauna. Because of the strong wind, the sound of the waves at night was loud enough to bother me, and I couldn’t sleep well, which was disappointing.

The meals truly lived up to the name “an Accommodation to dine at,” with an outstanding variety of dishes.

I stayed at this Accommodation I’d been curious about for a while. Overall, I felt the rating was high, but I’d like to mention three things that stood out to me. First, the dried horse mackerel served at breakfast. It was wrapped in aluminum foil on a hot plate, and I was told it would be ready to eat once the flame went out. However, the scales hadn’t been removed thoroughly, so for someone like me who likes to eat it with the skin on, it was a bit disappointing. Everything else was very delicious. Second, while areas like the lobby have been renovated and look nice, the washbasin in the Room felt quite worn from use. The shower room in the Room seemed newly replaced, which made it stand out even more. Lastly, I stayed in a Room with an open-air bath. The view was great with only a metal fence, but fishing boats passed quite close by, so depending on timing you could end up fully visible. I’d like to see some measures such as frosted glass. Those are the three points I noticed; even so, it was an Accommodation with very high overall satisfaction—perfect for people who love good food.

    A Satisfying Accommodation

Staying with my elderly father True to the Ryokan’s name, “an Accommodation to eat,” the cuisine was outstanding. The large public bath would have been even better with nicer weather, but even so, we were soothed by the Onsen in that wonderful location. The portions were a bit large for my father, but everything was very delicious, and we were satisfied with the Accommodation overall, including the service.

An Accommodation as Exceptional as Its Cuisine

I usually choose a small Ryokan, but this time I stayed at a large Ryokan for the first time in a while. True to its tagline as an “Accommodation for dining,” I fully enjoyed an Izu-style meal. The splendid alfonsino and spiny lobster were delicious. The sashimi boat platter was gorgeous, and not only looked impressive—the sashimi itself was outstanding. The staff member in charge was very knowledgeable, and I was impressed by how well she explained each dish. It can’t be helped since it’s not a private source, but the Onsen is a blended spring supplied from a tank to the whole town, so there were some disappointing points such as added water for temperature adjustment and the smell of chlorine disinfection. Still, although the strong winds made it a bit of an ordeal, the open-air bath on the 8th floor with its spectacular view was wonderful. At breakfast there was also a surprise sashimi boat platter, so we enjoyed ourselves right to the end.

    A Highly Satisfying 2-Night, 3-Day Stay

We arrived earlier than the check-in time, but we were warmly welcomed and were able to relax in the lobby until our Room was ready. When we entered the Room, we were impressed by the view from the window and spent some time just watching the sea. The view from the open-air bath was also amazing. We enjoyed both breakfast and dinner in our Room at a relaxed pace. We were worried we might not be able to finish everything, but both days we enjoyed it all—it was delicious. We also enjoyed chatting with the staff, and it was a very satisfying two-night stay. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

Room with Open-Air Bath (Type A)

This was my first time staying here. I think it’s a Hotel that lives up to its online to reputation. I felt the staff provided service with genuine consideration for guests. The only disappointment was that I stayed in the Open-Air Bath Room (Type A), and I noticed the age of the equipment. I think it may be time to replace the sofa and rug. Also, the hammock outside hangs so low that it nearly touches the ground when you sit on it, so it didn’t seem very useful. Other than that, everything was excellent. The size, temperature, and location of the open-air bath in the Room were outstanding. And as expected, although I’ve stayed at many places, I’d say this Hotel’s meals are number one. I wondered if I could really eat that much, but everything was delicious, and I finished every dish at both dinner and breakfast. This is a Hotel I’d like to stay at again if I have another opportunity. Thank you very much.

    My Wife’s Birthday

We stayed here to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The Ryokan’s atmosphere, the meals, and the hospitality of the staff were all excellent. My wife loves fish dishes, so we chose Hamanoyu. Each dish was carefully prepared, and the seafood was fresh and delicious. We would love to stay again. Thank you for preparing a cake for us.

    First stay in seven years

I stayed here seven years ago and had a wonderful time, so I returned after a long break. I was able to relax in a newly built Room while looking out at the sea. I couldn’t help comparing various aspects with my stay seven years ago, and what I noticed most was this: Back then, after being shown to the Room, the attendant assigned to our Room came to greet us and handled everything—from serving and clearing our meals to seeing us off—so we spent the whole stay with one person. We chatted about many things, took photos together as if she were like our daughter, and those fun memories have stayed with us. This time it was a little different. There were small issues, such as some amenities not being provided and the TV not being visible from the bedroom area because it was blocked by shelving, but overall it was a very satisfying stay. Thank you very much.

The Finest Cuisine and a Scenic View Bath

We stayed for one night over the New Year holidays. I had always wanted to stay at Hamanoyu, and it fully lived up to my expectations as an Accommodation. The food was absolutely delicious, and we were extremely satisfied. I think it was the best abalone I have ever had. The lavish sashimi boat platter served on a bannered display featuring “XX-maru” with my family name was a delightful and thoughtful touch. The simmered golden eye snapper was also perfectly seasoned. What I loved just as much as the meals was the large panoramic open-air bath. With an expansive open-air bath and a view of the vast ocean right in front of you, it was truly spectacular. Just after sunset, we were able to see a beautiful “moon road,” making it the best time for a soak. Because it was New Year’s, traffic was terrible and the drive took almost twice as long as usual to Inatori, leaving us exhausted—but we were instantly soothed by the Onsen. The only slight disappointment was that the open-air bath temperature the next morning seemed set quite high, so we couldn’t stay in for long. There was also a sashimi boat platter at breakfast. On departure, they waved us off until our car disappeared from view, and we could really feel how wonderful the staff’s hospitality was. We had a great time at Hamanoyu. Next time, I’d like to stay again when it’s less crowded than during New Year’s.

In-room dining and the open-air bath were wonderful!

We visited expecting a luxurious in-room seafood dinner and an ocean view—both exceeded our expectations! The meal plan was Standard, and the Room was M-type. As other reviews mention, the food was truly lavish and delicious. We enjoyed a full course over about two hours. The portions are so generous that many women may find it hard to finish (in a good way). Highlights were the simmered alfonsino made with freshly caught fish of the day, a boat platter of fresh seafood, and an incredibly thick palm-sized abalone steamed in sake. A cheerful and energetic attendant served everything, which made dining even more enjoyable. Regarding the baths: I stayed in a Room with an open-air bath on the balcony. For safety there is a fence, so the view from the bath is partially through it—some guests may find that noticeable. On the other hand, the open-air bath at the rooftop large public bath was outstanding. You can soak while taking in sweeping, unobstructed views from the 8th floor. It’s also spacious enough for well over 100 people at once, so you can relax without worrying about others. Also, this was genuine Onsen water sourced from Inatori’s natural spring. As for the Room itself: because M-type Rooms are slightly older, I noticed small details like scratches on floors and fittings or minor wobbling. However, both the shower room and bath area were clean, and I could relax comfortably overall. Since there are many recently renovated Rooms as well, I’d like to choose one of those next time. Amenities were well stocked with toiletries and skincare items; cleansing oil was also provided. What I especially appreciated was single-use L’OCCITANE shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and body cream—great quality and more than enough without needing my own. A Ryokan well worth considering when staying in Izu!

An accommodation where you can enjoy great food?

We had a very satisfying trip as a couple in our 60s, with wonderful weather, a great Room, beautiful views, and an open-air bath. However, because dinner was served in a tatami dining room, sitting for two hours was honestly uncomfortable. We would have appreciated a faster pace (especially since we don’t drink alcohol). The food was delicious and the staff were kind and attentive, but for an Accommodation known for its cuisine, it didn’t quite meet our expectations.

    One-Night Winter Onsen Getaway

I’d been interested in this place for a while, and I was finally able to visit. I drove there, and it took over four hours from my home. The staff were very pleasant, which made me feel at ease. The Onsen had spectacular views, and the in-room bath was very spacious and wonderful. I was also very satisfied with the large public bath. The meals featured plenty of fresh fish. Breakfast was also abundant—I was completely full. There was more than I could finish. One small disappointment was that there is only one small hand towel in the Room to reuse for bathing; while there are plenty of bath towels at the large public bath, there are no small hand towels available there. The refrigerator items were charged separately. Since the meals are quite generous, I personally would prefer slightly smaller portions and better amenities such as extra towels and a better selection of tea and water in the refrigerator. Everyone was kind and professional, and although it’s not an easy distance to visit casually, I would like to come again.

    Wonderful Memories

We stayed as two families in two Rooms. The meals were luxurious and everything was delicious, and since a private dining Room was prepared for us, we were able to enjoy our meal at a relaxed pace. The open-air bath in the Room was also excellent. The staff were very pleasant, and our elderly parents were extremely satisfied. Thank you very much.

The open-air bath with a view was amazing.

The open-air observation bath offers a truly wonderful ocean view. The meals are so plentiful you’ll be completely satisfied, and the sashimi is very fresh. We stayed to celebrate the owner’s birthday, and the service at the Ryokan was excellent. We were especially moved by the staff’s cheerful hospitality and the thoughtful birthday message card.

Even though we’re an Accommodation focused on dining,

I stayed for a Multiple Night Stay (2 nights) in an A-type Room. Upon entering, I immediately noticed how dated the fixtures, furniture, and layout were—things that were not apparent from the photos online. You have to take off your shoes at the entrance, but there was no chair; there was no hand soap at the toilet sink; and there were no hooks to hang towels or bathrobes in either the bathroom vanity area or the open-air bath area, which was inconvenient. The plastic cups at the sink were clearly old and had no indication that they had been sanitized, so I did not use them. The bedroom closet was so full of hangers that there was hardly any space to hang clothes. The in-room open-air bath was spacious with a great view, and I enjoyed it very much. The indoor bath also had a mist room, which was nice, but it was disappointing that the shower shut off automatically. As for dining, I informed them of my food allergies in advance and even received a confirmation call from the Hotel. However, an allergen ingredient was still served. When I asked a staff member about it, I was told matter-of-factly, “We couldn’t accommodate it, so please don’t eat it,” with no real apology as they continued service as if nothing had happened. I was truly shocked by this response. The main highlight of dinner was a large boat platter: on the first night, the alfonsino sashimi was very fresh and delicious. On the second night—completely unlike the first—the seafood freshness had noticeably declined and I barely touched it. Breakfast also came with a boat platter, but aside from that there were no particularly memorable side dishes. For an Accommodation known for its food-focused concept (“an inn where you eat”), both flavor and ingredients felt quite ordinary overall. Given that it is right by the sea, serving seafood with reduced freshness was especially disappointing.

The large public bath smells strongly of disinfectant.

I understand that, as a large public bath, it needs to be kept clean, but the disinfectant smell is far too strong and it’s harsh even for sensitive skin.

It was delicious, but I couldn't finish it.

The meals were excellent. For elderly guests, the portions might be too large to finish, and we felt sorry for leaving food behind. The staff, including the guides and servers, provided impeccable service, making our stay very comfortable. One suggestion would be to provide something like a face towel in the room's washroom for a perfect experience.

    It was very good, but...

This was my first stay at this accommodation. The room was not an expensive one. The Ryukyu tatami, which is supposed to be a highlight of the room, was either dirty or overly worn out. Upon entering, I could see the ocean, but I was more shocked by the condition of the tatami than impressed by the view. Additionally, there was a significant amount of dust on the glass part of the sink area, which was disappointing. Toothpaste splatters were noticeable on walls and wooden parts as well, which lowered my mood considerably. The lack of face towels also felt inconvenient. On a positive note, the food was delicious and filling; however, the freshness of sashimi left something to be desired. That said, the simmered golden eye snapper and salted radish with winter yellowtail were exceptionally tasty.

    I had a relaxing time.

We stayed as a family of three at this accommodation, which is a favorite of my daughter and her husband. Unfortunately, my son-in-law couldn't join us this time. Both of them love good food, and every onsen accommodation we've visited together so far has had delicious meals and great hot springs. Our expectations were high for this visit as well. For the room choice, considering leg and back comfort, we opted for a room with table dining and bed height suitable for easy use, but without an open-air bath this time. The meals were delightful and delicious, enhanced by the wonderful presentation from the staff assigned to our room (it was lovely!). The sashimi boat platter was exciting to see—and surprisingly served even at breakfast! Although the portions were generous, we added rice from the pot provided and finished everything because it was all so tasty. The onsen experience was relaxing; we enjoyed gazing at a sky full of stars at night or watching the sunrise over the sea in the morning. Additionally, I requested shiatsu massage services—this therapist had exceptional skills! It’s been ages since I’ve felt so thoroughly relieved while lying on a bed in our room. Although there were concerns about whether we'd be able to depart due to JR power outages causing train suspensions, I'm truly glad we made it here. Just one small suggestion: rooms for three or more people might benefit from having double sinks in the bathroom. Next time, I hope to visit with my son-in-law as well!
