KIKI Shiretoko Natural Resort
Hokkaido/ShiretokoAn Onsen Accommodation perched on a hill overlooking the Sea of Okhotsk on the west coast of the Shiretoko Peninsula.
The Shiretoko Peninsula is a remote, unspoiled region of Hokkaido. KIKI Shiretoko Natural Resort is an Onsen Accommodation on the peninsula’s west coast, set on a hill overlooking the Sea of Okhotsk. From ocean-side guest rooms, enjoy sweeping sea views, and in the open-air bath of the large public bath, relax in free-flowing hot spring water direct from the source (heated and diluted). We welcome you with fresh local seafood, mountain produce, locally raised chicken, and heartfelt hospitality.
I used the Room-assigned Plan as a solo traveler. I arrived early, and while I was waiting in the lobby, the staff kindly offered to check me in and let me start using the lounge services (drinks, etc.) right away. The bath and sauna facilities were excellent—above all, very spacious. It was also a big plus that all the showerheads were ReFa FINE BUBBLE PURE. For hair dryers, I believe there were ReFa, Dyson, and one other brand. They also have baby beds for children, and the changing area is roomy as well. After bathing, from evening into night they provided Pocari Sweat and ice cream.Even though I was alone, my room felt almost too spacious—in a good way. It was a natural-style Japanese tatami room of about 10 mats, perfect for relaxing. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t great, but looking outside I could see the sea and really feel close to nature.Breakfast was truly delicious. Compared with places known for having some of Hokkaido’s best breakfasts, there may not be as many items—but each dish is genuinely excellent. Karafuto shishamo smelt, salmon, gyudon made with Hokkaido beef, plus live-cooking omelets and fried eggs. Must-tries are the cod roe and Matsumae-zuke—both were far better than anywhere else I’ve had them. The udon uses Hokkaido wheat flour and kombu-based broth with a gentle flavor that would be great for kids too. There weren’t many fruits or sweets options, but there was a decent variety of bread. I didn’t try the Western dishes myself, but they also had hashed beef and hot sandwiches. The seating is spaced out nicely as well. When it was time to leave, while I was in the lobby they let me know when my bus arrived, so I could relax until the very end without worry. The hospitality isn’t overly attentive in an intense way; instead they keep an appropriate distance while still offering helpful services like the lounge—which felt just right for me.
lu_blue 3/2/2026I visited Shiretoko for 3 nights and 4 days to see the drift ice and Steller’s sea eagles…The staff’s thoughtful attention to detail was wonderful. Around 6 a.m., I looked out the Room window and saw that they had cleared the snow off the rental car’s windshield in the parking lot. I was truly moved by that kind of care. When we couldn’t leave because icicles around the tires wouldn’t come off, a staff member rushed over and removed them all for us. The meals were delicious, too. The ReFa shower was great! I’d love to come again.
