  • We were first amazed by the magnificent, luxurious building! Not only were the facilities outstanding, but the hospitality and meals were also excellent. We were impressed by the flavors that made the most of the ingredients and by the well-balanced portions that even my elderly mother could finish. We would love to visit again in another season.

  • This was my first stay. We stayed in the Room called “Nagi,” and it was truly wonderful. The Room is only a year old, and as soon as we stepped inside, it still smelled of fresh wood. After passing through the entrance, a beautiful Japanese garden with a water feature comes into view. Until now, I had always chosen an Accommodation based on spectacular views, so I never would have picked this type of Room. However, this trip was decided at the last minute and there weren’t many options, so we happened to stay in a Room without a view like this. It turned out to be amazing, and it was a great opportunity to realize that this kind of Room is absolutely worth choosing too. At night, the reflections of the trees on the water were beautiful, and the open-air bath was softly lit with indirect lighting—everything about the Room, including the garden, felt wrapped in elegant modern Japanese style. These days it’s not that rare for everything in the in-room refrigerator to be complimentary, but the quality of what was provided here was excellent: beer was Yebisu Beer, and instead of sparkling wine there was Champagne—my partner was delighted. We took a walk around the garden and were surprised by how vast it is—we almost felt like we could get lost. The nature is stunning, and listening to the chorus of frogs was very soothing. The large public bath area was kept very clean; however, it felt fairly standard overall without anything particularly memorable. For dinner we had soft-shelled turtle kaiseki course cuisine, and everything was truly delicious. My partner said her favorite dish was the one with soft-shelled turtle meat on top of cheese risotto; for me, nothing beat the hot pot (marunabe) and rice porridge (zosui). The restaurant atmosphere was lovely and the service was excellent. Breakfast was served in a private room. It was very filling for morning food, but everything tasted great—and not only did I finish it all; my partner did too (laugh). Lastly, all of your staff were cheerful and kind throughout our stay, which made our time there very pleasant. Thank you very much.

  • [Kitano-maru’s Special Feature] Display of a Yamaha organ manufactured over 100 years ago

The YAMAHA trademark comes from the surname of its founder, Torakusu Yamaha, a pioneer in Western musical instrument manufacturing.

Torakusu Yamaha decided to build organs after successfully repairing a broken organ at Hamamatsu Elementary School in 1887. In 1899, he was commissioned by the Ministry of Education to travel to the United States to study piano manufacturing methods, and is known for his remarkable foresight.

This organ is currently on display in Umeden at Katsuragi Kitano Maru.

It was donated by the late Shojiro Sato—who was active as a percussionist with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra after the war, later served as chairman of its management committee, and went on to become a professor at Hiroshima University and permanent conductor of the Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra. This instrument is known as “No. 2,” produced from the Meiji era through the early Showa period.

Although parts have been restored, serial number 81243 is believed to date from around 1908. The worn YAMAHA ORGAN logo and markings reflect its long history.

Umeden is available exclusively to staying guests as an audio lounge.
Please take this rare opportunity to view this valuable organ up close.
*This organ cannot be played. Please do not touch any exhibits.*
