  • This is a truly wonderful Hotel. The service, Facility, and meals were all excellent. The staff were kind and attentive, and their detailed explanations made our stay completely comfortable. The Facility, including the amenities, was also great, and small touches—like fresh flowers in the elevator—were especially impressive. The food was delicious, and I ended up eating more than I should have. I’d love to stay here again with friends.

  • Having received a dinner gift for the Imperial Viking Sal, I also stayed overnight this time. As expected of a Hotel that hosts state guests. Not only at check-in and check-out, but also in the restaurant guidance and service, every member of staff greeted us with refreshing, pleasant smiles. I strongly felt they provide truly outstanding service as Hotel staff. The Viking Sal is probably best known for its signature roast beef, but the cold and hot dishes were excellent as well—especially the Chinese cuisine, which pleasantly surprised me. The desserts and gelato were even better than those at some specialty shops.I also had breakfast in the same venue; although it was a typical Hotel breakfast with items like made-to-order omelets, French toast, and cut fruit, it was delicious and very satisfying. The Room in the Tower Building was thoroughly cleaned down to every detail, making my stay very comfortable. It was great to have a Nespresso machine provided, along with decaf capsules. At check-in I received the Wi-Fi password, and I felt it was an excellent service that they prepare one properly for each guest. Before heading home I purchased bread and food items, and they kindly kept my luggage after checkout until I returned to pick it up, which was extremely helpful. After staying here, I feel I’ll have more opportunities to stop by in the future. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

Introduction of the Accommodation

Exterior

The Story of the Imperial Hotel

The Imperial Hotel was established in 1890 (Meiji 23) in Hibiya, Tokyo, serving as Japan's guesthouse to welcome distinguished guests from abroad. Since then, it has always warmly welcomed guests as a stage for gatherings.

Exterior
Imperial Hotel and Eiichi Shibusawa

The Imperial Hotel was established by Eiichi Shibusawa and Kihachiro Okura under the directive of Kaoru Inoue, the Foreign Minister during the Meiji government, to build equal diplomatic relations. Eiichi Shibusawa managed the hotel for 19 years since its opening in 1890 and served as its first president. The corporate philosophy of the Imperial Hotel deeply resonates with Shibusawa's teachings, and this DNA continues to be inherited in the hearts of its employees to this day.

Exterior
Frank Lloyd Wright and the Imperial Hotel

The second main building of the Imperial Hotel (commonly known as the "Wright Building") was completed in 1923 (Taisho 12). It was the first Hotel architecture in Japan designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, one of the most renowned architects of the 20th century. Although it faced the Great Kanto Earthquake on its opening day, the Property became more than just a place to stay during the Taisho and Showa eras. It served as a hub for cultural exchange between the East and the West, connecting nations and people. Additionally, numerous vibrant Hotel cultures that adorned social gatherings were born here. The brilliance and charm emanating from within the Hotel, combined with the unique beauty of Wright's architecture, earned it the title of "Jewel of the Orient," leaving people in awe and wonder until its closure in 1967. Wright's legacy continues to be cherished to this day. Currently, only the central entrance of the Wright Building has been relocated to the Meiji Mura in Inuyama City, Aichi Prefecture.

Saul
"Buffet cuisine" originated from the Imperial Hotel

The widely known dining style called "Viking" actually has its roots in the Imperial Hotel. In 1957 (Showa 32), the then-president Tetsuzo Inumaru took notice of the unique concept of the Nordic traditional cuisine "smorgasbord," which allows diners to "eat as much as they like of whatever they like." He instructed Nobuo Murakami, who was training at the Hotel Ritz in Paris at the time (and later became the 11th head chef), to study this cuisine in Copenhagen. On August 1 of the following year, Japan's first buffet restaurant, "Imperial Viking," was opened. The name "Viking" was inspired by the pirate movie "The Vikings," which was released in the same year. At the Imperial Hotel, August 1 was designated as "Viking Day" in 2008 (Heisei 20), marking the 50th anniversary of the birth of "Imperial Viking."
